My name is Reese and I live in Brownstown. My buddy in Woodhaven talked me into getting a handgun, well I should say shooting his handgun talked me into it. Anyhow, he has an XD 40 and I am picking up the XDm 40 tomorrow. Just wanted to say hi, looks like a very cool community of shooters here.
I have been considering picking up the Mossberg 500 20 gauge as well for home defense, but 1 thing at a time right.

Welcome to the site!

I think the pistol grip Mossberg shotguns are awesome!

Welcome! I currently have 2 Mossberg 500's both 12 gauge 1 with a 28" smooth vent rib barrel and the other has a 24" rifled barrel and a Bushnell 1.75-4 scope on it. I love both of them. I am a lefty so the top safety is very important. I have shot a 870 and think the 500 is better.

So im sure you know how hard it is to find guns. All my guns are righthanded with the exception of my remington 700 in 308. You would think they would make more left handed guns but very few companies do. Remington makes a lefty 870 as well as a few other guns but the mossberg is cheaper in price but i like it better. The action is very smooth and holds 6 rounds vs the 870 4. One detriment with the 500 though is you cant easily extend the capacity like you can on a 870. That is the only bad thing i know of about the 500. If it is primarily for home defense at the current time and possibly for hunting in the future i recommend getting the bigger mag capacity and if you ever choose to hunt with it you can plug it.
