For a Bench Rest AR-15 what is the scope that would be worth putting on the gun..

This is the weekend warrior gun, and I'm not planning on combat anytime soon..

1300 dollar trijicon is out of the question and I'd want some magnification perhaps 9x or 12x..

What's the scope to get?

This scope is pretty decent for the budget minded. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/598484/weaver-tactical-grand-slam-rifle-scope-3-10x-40mm-1-10-mil-adjustments-mil-dot-reticle-matte

I put a BSA 4-16x55 on a 24" barreled varmint set up it's decent for what I paid for it.

Put a Steiner 5003 on my SPR. $1000 retail...got it for $520.00/shipped, with the Steiner $75.00 rebate.

I have a bunch of scopes but wanted something for my DMR rifle that would be more than a 1-4 for weekend shooting at steel out to 500 yards. I took a chance on the new Bushnell AR223 Optics. I got the 3-12 with the BDC reticle. I put it in a 20 MOA mount and zeroed at 100 with the hash marks equalling 200-300-400 and 500 on the reticle. They match up great for anything moving 3000 FPS so it's just a bit high with my 77g SMK MK 262 load at 2840. Close enough for steel.

It's a nice scope for $166. Good field of view and clear glass. The clicks are crisp but the knobs wiggle a bit. Not an issue for my intended us. Best part is it is small and light.

Great scope for the money. I have a lot of time behind one and it just works well. Optics and tracking are very good.

And it looks right on an AR, not overly huge! Lol

A fixed 10x is a terrible general purpose scope for an AR. Tried it, got rid of it. The 3-12x42 Nikon or similar is very useful by comparison. I had cases where I called in coyotes with it and when they came in I had a scope full of blurry fur, very hard to follow a running animal etc. Shooting from a bench at a target a consistent distance away, thats a different deal. Nikon also had the side parallax adjustment to eliminate parallax at different ranges.

Did you read the op?

Yes, a fixed 10x sucks for moving targets....

I had massive, major shoulder surgery earlier this year.. Major knee surgery middle of last year, and later this year I may even get the mid cerebral aneurysm repaired.

A bit of bench shooting is all I can do for the next year or so.. I have good range of motion and physical therapy has gone great.. but needless to say I won't be chasing down any Coyotes in the near future..

But I can still sit there and relax as I enjoy my AR 15..
