What is the best scope for a 243 target/varmint rifle. Savage model 12 with 26'' bull barrel and accu trigger. I would like to use this rifle to target shoot and maybe some long range varmint hunting. What do you think about fixed power scopes vs variable power, say Weaver kt-15 vs Burris 4.5x14. Used prices under $300.00 for scope purchase.

Take the Weaver or some other good fixed at 10+ power.
If your primary use is target shooting, you might want more magnification yet. I had a Weaver T24, although the thing tracked like a champ, the exit pupil was so small it was very hard to see through. The lower power Weaver might not be so sensitive however. After having a few fixed power scopes, I much prefer a variable, with some form of parallax adjustment.

Just rec my Natchez catalog. They have some refurb Nixons listed at reduced price. I didnt look at what is available powerwise.

I would look to a 4.5-14 power scope, or so, mid to upper quality as able.
