have a new lever gun and was thinking about what optics I want on it.....was really leaning towards an eotech 517 that I already have....or an inexpensive scope ($150) ......has anyone used a red dot on their levergun and what some of the drawbacks that I am missing....Already going to miss the low light sight picture with the scope, but what else......anyone have pics of their lever red dot setup?
thanks

I can't think of an optic that would look more out of place on a lever gun than an eotech. An ultra dot sight would look better....

Personally not my cup of tea, but here goes..

Why not use a small red dot like a doctor or trijicon RMR? I know they're not the cheapest but why throw a big heavy optic on a fairly light, small rifle? They mount much lower, add little appreciable weight and their batteries (or fiber optic filament) last forever.

It's your gun, you already have the optic. Throw it on and see how you like it. It doesn't have to be pretty to be funtional. If other people think it's ugly........so what?

Agree with this. Eotech is a great sight...they look kind of odd on a lever gun, but work just fine. If I were buying new wouldn't be first choice, but since you already have it, no reason not to use it.

I think there are better options. The reticle would not be my first choice for hunting.

Buy eotech with a no firearms sign on their front door?

I like the eotech with the flip to side 3x magnifier. It is a bit big and heavy on a light rifle but the combination is great up to about 250 yards. I really prefer a red dot over iron sights for hunting since you can keep both eyes open and you acquire targets faster.

I'm looking at getting a Leopuld 1-4x20mm for my lever gun.

I figure I'm only looking to shoot maximum 150yd with it, and this is in a decent price range at about $300.
