I'm thinking about a co2 pellet pistol as a training aid, since 22 is still so hard to come by.

As it stands right now, I would have to get a purchase permit and "register" it, since it's still considered a firearm and a handgun, correct?

Thanks in advance,

troy

If it is larger than .177 or has a rifled barrel then yes you would have to get a purchase permit/RI60 and register it.

12/3/2014 Expected in SJ 76 COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED IMMEDIATE EFFECT

Reported out of committee and returned to the floor of the Senate. This may actually get somewhere.

I sure hope it passes.

This should also legalize the use of "whisper" air guns in Michigan.

Currently, the ATF does not regulate suppressed air rifles, so they will not issue a tax stamp for them. Since Michigan considers those air guns to be firearms, any suppressed air rifle is illegal here because one cannot obtain ATF approval for non-regulated items.

I was under the impression that this request was for gun bills BEFORE the last election.

Snyder didn't veto THIS one, this one died on the Senate floor.

He did veto other bills that included some of this ones language. Air guns are still "firearms" in Michigan.

We need to make sure that the crap coming in May doesn't cost us any more money. They have shown that they are irresponsible in their spending.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the significance of May 5th? Other than it being Cinco de Mayo?

Thank you.

I've already decided how I'm going to vote on that one... NO!

I hope the majority of voters vote the same way.

If that goes through it would raise our sales tax rate to tie us for the second highest rate in the nation. We would only be .5% behind the leader, California. I too will be voting NO!

We need to all vow to never again vote for anything that increases taxes or fees.

For the sake of our children and grand children it is imperative that our government both State and Federal decrease spending and lower the amount taken from its citizens.

Thanks for the clarification. I haven't had much time to follow the forum due to year end work issues.

I strongly supported a local road millage attempt in my area (defeated) because we would have had local control of how the funds were used. I will strongly oppose the pending ballot tax increase not out of spite, but because I do not feel our State leadership has the ability to get any actual work done with new funds. I would rather see a complete overhaul of our State budget and tax structure first.

He did veto other bills that included some of this ones language. Air guns are still "firearms" in Michigan.

Actually Snyder did kill the House bills through a devious legislative ploy. Detroit Mayor Duggan apparently got Governor Snyder to arrange the demise of the air gun package after freaking out over the John Crawford/WalMart/Beaver Creek and Tamir Rice/Cleveland police shooting incidents. News reports are coyly suggesting 'local officials' pressured Snyder to kill the bills.

The local official in question, Duggan, will be master of ceremonies at Snyder's reinauguration on January 1st and fancies himself to be Michigan's 2019 Governor. Snyder, of course, is angling for a 2016 U.S. Presidential or Vice Presidential nomination, so he did not want to aggravate gun owners directly. Hence the charade executed by Randy Richardville to only pass the Senate bills, giving Snyder a non gun control excuse to veto the Senate half of the air gun package. A neat legislative trick with the hallmark of Sally Durfee, Snyder's devious Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs.

The House bills had been reported out of the Senate Judiciary committee by unanimous votes with recommendations for immediate implementation and were ready for final passage on 03 December, just like the Senate half of the air gun package. The NRA got gamed on this one. Demonstrates how Democrats and Republicans in the establishment work together behind the scenes to diligently corrupt our government process for their gain.

We need to make sure that the crap coming in May doesn't cost us any more money. They have shown that they are irresponsible in their spending.

Okay, help me out here...

Many of these gun bills have passed with 2/3; WHY do they wait until a week or two before the end of the year to bring them to full vote and pass them?!? WHY aren't these bills brought to full vote much earlier in the session when a veto over-ride would be a cake walk????

Political theater to reduce fallout. Give the 'great unwashed' the impression that the bills are on track to pass and then kill them during a slow news cycle while everyone is focused on their families during the holidays.

Also prevents a veto override due to the end of the Legislature.
