Hi all,

It's been awhile since we've given the old server some TLC, so I'm planning a bit of server maintenance while I'm off work over the holiday break.

It'll likely be early morning at some point between December 25 and January 3. Estimated time to be less than 4 hours.

Don't worry, you all should have plenty of Christmas presents to play with in the meantime.

Part one is complete. This was a brief downtime while we did some security patches.

Done.

The SQL update happened invisibly to end users. No issues to report. I'm happy to report that we had a successful patch window to round out the year.

Total downtime was less than 10 minutes!

Not a problem!

As an aside - moving to our new host has enabled this sort of maintenance to happen. Whereas before we were on shared hosting, coordinating would have been a nightmare and could have meant days of downtime (in fact, this has taken us down for days in the past).

Now that we're on our new host, we can do zero-downtime maintenance as well as minimal downtime maintenance for VB upgrades.

It costs more, but it's worth it in the long run.
