Looking for one for my 77/44. I have a 1.5-4 on it but have not been happy with the location and lack of bolt clearance with the fast focus eye piece. I would rather have a 2-7 for point counting at longer effective range. Longer body would help get the scope back a little more for more clearance. No fast focus eye piece desired for clearance.

Looking at the VX1 but would like to spend a bit less and i don't really care for how hard the Leupolds are to adjust power especially with gloves.

Looking at weaver 40 44 but can't find dimension of body to see where it would set and eye piece diameter.

I already have high rings and very little cheek weld so don't want taller rings.

Anyone know where i can find the weaver info or have some other recommendations?

I think you want a scope with longer "eye relief".

What I need is eye piece relief from the bolt. The eye piece of the scope on it and others I have looked at are like 1.65-1.7" dia. Scope can't move back any farther due to body length and front ring mount limitations. The one I have has about 4-5" eye relief.

The longer eye relief should allow you to mount the scope forward of the bolt handle, with the proper mounts. You could also have a gun smith alter the bolt handle.

I think i would need like 6" eye relief to like where it is now with a heavy coat hunting, but i see your point. I was thinking bolt modification, but was not sure. Is that something that can be modified or is that a bending process? I would still get a different scope but would have less fit issues with a better bolt angle.

Don't know if this will help, but I purchased this :
Leatherwood / Hi-Lux Optics 2-7x32mm Long Eye Relief Riflescope
for my Springfield M1A Scout Squad rifle due to its' factory supplied
forward scope mount position. The scope works well, despite it's bargain price..
I considered both a Burris & a Leupold of similar power, but purchased the Leatherwood.

I will check that out thanks.

The weaver 4044 turned out not to be so great on quality. I am looking at the weaver classic V note as well as the US made Redfield revaluation.

The Leatherwood is a scout scope. More eye relief than i need but could work. How does it work at like 4-5" eye relief?

I have my scope moved to the rearmost mounting position on the M1A's receiver,
there is a wide range of clear viewing from the rear eyepiece

On Midway, states "Eye Relief: up to 13" .."
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2275761874/leatherwood-hi-lux-atr-long-eye-relief-scout-rifle-scope-2-7x-32mm-matte

I moved ny eye up to about 4" from eyepiece & still had a clear view through the lens..
