I have a 18" spr on its way and need advice on what to put on it for scope/optic. I have a aimpoint pro but want something that fits the Pou for such a rifle and be able to shoot distance. I'm not very informed on scopes so I don't want yo spend big money. I prefer illuminated. Any suggestion's?

On a budget + illuminated = Mueller

I have the Eradicator on my .223 Savage bolt and the 1-4 and 4-16s for my ARs; fine in most daylight conditions but don't expect optical miracles compared to a Trijicon etc. at 4X the price.
Standard size targets to 400 yards will be no problem; if you want to count the hairs on a squirrel you need to pony up $$$.

what is your desired price range? That will help a lot. "Big money" is subjective.

$4-500

I'll second vortex.

Look at Leupold Mk AR 1.5-4
SWFA Super Sniper 1-4

That is a tough price range because it's a little too much for the cheap "junk" (relative), but falls just a touch short from being solidly upper entry level/lower mid-level. There are some good options in the 1-4x category, but when you start going up in magnification, you go up in price as well. I would place that leupold in third place. I would imagine the vortex and the SWFA SS are about tied up on quality.

Some more info on what you plan to do with it would help in advisement as well. What are your expected distances? Is 1x a must have or can you make do with say 2.5x, or adding something like a dr optic later on?

If I'm going with a Chinese product,I want the lifetime guarantee like Vortex has.

Vortex has a new 1-6 coming out in early summer that is priced less then the current 1-4 pst viper. Not sure why that is. But would 1-6 really be much of an advantage over 1-4? I live in metro Detroit so all the ranges by me arw indoors and 50 yards is the max.

If you are just going to shoot indoors or at 50 yards and under buy a sparc or strikefire . Both are good out around 100. Anything past that and need a scope to be accurate to pinpoint. Red dot keep you on a paper plate to 200 decent groups .

The sparc is lighter and both should come with a screw in 2X manifier

As others have said- if 50 yards is your max distance, you don't need any magnification at all.

BUT, Just because that's all you have right now, don't assume that's all you will ever have. If I'm looking at a 1-4 and a 1-6, and the only difference is magnification, I'll go 1-6. But that isn't usually the case. 1-4 will likely be smaller and lighter. I like to say that for general usage, 1x per 100 yards is fine. I've shot 1k targets with a 10x. More can often be better, but not aways. So, consider that a 1-4 should allow you to shoot pretty well at 300-400 yards and a 1-6 would be around 500-600 yards. Keep in mind, I'm talking man-sized targets (lets say 20x20) and assuming you're shooting about a 2moa gun/ammo. If you want to be shooting for groups at 600, you'd better get more than 6x.

That said- I have shot targets at 300m with an aimpoint compM2 and compM4 without a magnifier. It's a bit harder than with 4x glass... but it's do-able.
