Another special class?

Yep, adding to a couple of groups:

2015-HB-4159 (http://legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?2015-HB-4159)

(d) An individual who is licensed under this act and who is a corrections officer of a county sheriff's department or who is licensed under this act and is a retired corrections officer of a county sheriff's department. The concealed weapon licensing board may require a letter from the county sheriff's department stating that the retired corrections officer retired in good standing.

AND:

(h) An individual who is licensed under this act and who is a parole or probation officer of the department of corrections.any of the following:

(i) A parole, probation, or corrections officer or absconder recovery unit member of the department of corrections.

(ii) A retired parole, probation, or corrections officer or retired absconder recovery unit member of the department of corrections. The concealed weapon licensing board may require a letter from the department of corrections stating that the retired parole, probation, or corrections officer or retired absconder recovery unit member retired in good standing.

These need to get lumped together with the others and all dumped in the trash, crap bill.

If they can do it for some there is no reason they can’t do it for everyone, same for reduced or free permits. ALL citizens need to be equal under the law, not a tough concept to grasp unless you are in Lansing.

UPDATE

A revised Senate Judiciary Committee agenda just came out. SB 516 and HB 4159 are no longer on the agenda.

I'm not sure what to make of this yet. It could be the sponsors wanted more time, or it could be that the calls had an effect. It also could be a dirty trick by the committee chair. He has been known to use them in the past (http://www.michiganopencarry.org/news/2015/02/Rick-Jones-On-Facebook).

Either way, I have other scheduled business in Lansing today and will still be at the hearing just in case.

I do believe I heard on the news radio this morning that Snyder signed this (just looked it up, yes, SIGNED by SNYDER at 12:58pm yesterday, the 30th).

I don't get it... they "say" it is so corrections officers can protect themselves. OK, why cant the rest of us? I would LOVE to see actual, factual data indicating that CORRECTIONS OFFICERS are more vulnerable or at higher risk than anyone else while inside a school, church, daycare facility, theater, etc... When is the last time someone inside a school or church identified someone as a Corrections Officer and decided to do them harm? Even if wearing their uniform...

I fail to see how, in this case, those who are now excluded from the PFZ's are more entitled to protect their lives, than the rest of us. I hate this whole "add new protected classes of citizen" BS. I'm slightly torn in some ways, as I can understand and see how Judges, maybe court officers, and similar could be at higher risk, especially if they are a known public figure (I would recognize exactly ONE Judge from my County if I saw him on the street, and that is only because I went to school with his daughter and he is blind with a service dog... kinda obvious).

But Private Investigators? Really? They went into that profession on their own... knowing the risks.. other than a Criminal Justice background, or perhaps being a retired attorney, they aren't specifically any different than the rest of us normal citizens. In fact, if anything, they'd be more inconspicuous.

Could you point out the last time (or anytime) that a Judge was shot in a K-12 school?
Or even in a sports stadium.

More private citizens have been shot in PFZ's then all the exempted classes put together.
WE need the right & ability to protect ourselves more then they do.

That's exactly my point as well... I guess I was just willing to give an inch.. but the more I think about this... there should not be ANY protected classes of citizen when it comes to 2nd Amendment rights, not even LEO's!!!

We are all human, equally as vulnerable to death by gunshot... and if anything, recent mass shootings should prove that it is the private, everyday citizen who needs to be armed to protect themselves, moreso than an off-duty policeman or a disliked Judge.
