Mama told me to wash my hands all the time. BKD is mostly affecting the salmon ..not walleye that I fish for

I've caught 100's of Muskie on Lacque Sainte Claire and know a bit more than you are giving me credit for.

Hmm look at the name for Muskie Pox has salmon(is) in it's name.

Not to mention an undersize muskie is to be released immediately. Bringing it aboard for pics is not immediate and is hurting the survival chances of it. You took some of it's slime away

I do know some that work down there.

It's also against the AUP of this forum to post things that are illegal or immoral, but yet here it is.
Hypocrisy my friend,I say hypocrisy.
What will the MDNR think about this,MGO is partnered with them ,Yes?

Do you know how long it takes to snap a pic on a smart phone? You know what a smart phone is ol' timer?
Pics of a fish before release are within the law. Give it a rest or go trade in your Polaroid

thanks for the pic mike

This is a great battle you've chosen to fight, putting a Michigan Gun Owner down for improper fish slime handling. :lollol:

Back to the topic. Awesome catch. Congrats. Keeping the pic as the only souvenir is the best way to go.

Bkd and musky pox are different diseases, and walleye aren't part of the salmonoid family.

As stated above, I was fishing for walleye...I don't fish for musky...I don't eat musky...I DONT OWN 1 MUSKY BAIT. The musky was caught accidently and happens occasionally while fishing the DR.
It inhaled my bait, firmly imbedding the jighead and stinger hook in its mouth . There was no way to SAFELY remove the hooks without handling the fish. After removing the hooks , my fishing partners were already positioned with the camera. As you can see, I had 1 hand at the gill plate (with a rubber coated anti-slime glove on) and the other supporting it horizontally supporting its muscles and spine and not putting undue pressure on the gill plate (but since you've caught 100's of musky ...you would know not to hold them vertically , right?) ---I then gently sat it in the water and held with my rubber glove on making sure it was strong enough to swim away to be caught again. Total time out of the water --less than 25 seconds.

There is nothing illegal what I did. My tape measure on the boat only goes to 36"...it was well beyond that mark and the 42" was just an estimate .

From the Michigan fishing guide:
Muskellunge
(including Tiger Muskellunge)

42″

Only 1 per angler per angling year (Apr. 1 – Mar. 31)

(See Note 7)
Muskellunge Harvest Tag: The tag is free and legally required for anyone to harvest a muskellunge (including tiger muskellunge) in Michigan waters. Muskellunge harvest is limited to 1 per person per angling year (Apr. 1 – Mar. 31). The tag is non-transferable and is only available at license agents or DNR Service Centers. A muskellunge shall be immediately released or tagged with a validated muskellunge harvest tag

What I suggest is that you mind your own business. Harassing sportsman is illegal , harassing me here violates the AUP. If you don't have anything POSITIVE to say or question my catch ..STAY THE **** OFF MY POST . I've CAUGHT 1000'S OF FISH EACH YEAR...YES 1000'S AND all get safely released to be caught another day. :)
