Reminds me of opening morning....3 does came within 20 feet and I couldn't get a shot.....I did think about a hip shot but it's just not my style.

The moose was crazy. I don't think I would have shot a moose that close head on with an arrow or anything short of an elephant gun with a shot to the head. Maybe it is just me, but I would have waited until it was turning away for a broad side or quartering away shot and I would have been set-up off to the side and slightly behind a good size tree or other large object for concealment and safety as moose are very dangerous.
The elk get very close. I work with a lady who's husband bow hunts elk. Most of his shots are under 25 yd. with some around 20'. It is very typical for the outfitters he huts with yet people still miss them or hit them badly at those ranges. I guess they come unglued.

i had a doe fawn at a distance of 30" 2 yrs ago
it was in a blizzard snowstorm
she came in with her mom and walked around a dead fall i was sitting infront of and passed between me and my backpack (that wsa on the ground next to me) and was facing directly away from me
I had my ML in my hands across my lap and decided instead of shooting i would poke her in the side
not smart on my part, i slid the gun straight forward and poked her in the ribs
he proceeded to jump 4 feet in the air and her hoofs just missed my head by inches and she went flying out of there
i had dirt and snow all over me from her hoofs trying to get traction
it was funny as hell but scary as well
i think i have the pics of her hoof prints in the snow right next to my feet

I've been in Rocky Mountain National Park when the elk move into the valleys. The nimrods try and walk up to them as if they are tame. Dumb!

When I lived out in Boulder, we'd go up to Estes Park for day trips. The elk would come into town and bed down in the parks by the lake. Must have been the same dumbos that walked up to them there. These idiots would send their kids over near the elk to get their picture taken.
