Well, I invite my 2 girls hunt with me almost every time I go out. They rarely want to go. But today my younger daughter who is 5 decided she would go. We were walking along the edge of a field to our stand when I spotted a buck about a hundred yards away in some tall grass. I lifted her up trying to get her a view of the deer, but she couldn't pick him out in the cover. We were only about 20 yards from our tree so we slipped in and got in our stands as quickly and quietly as a five year old can. I had just connected her harness to the tree when I noticed the buck coming towards us at about 60 yards. I knocked an arrow and was fumbling with my release while trying to get my daughter to see the buck. He eventually wandered in to exactly 40 yards(thanks to my rangefinder) and stood broadside. I sent an arrow right into his ribs and he trotted toward our tree and gave my daughter a great chance to see him. She didn't get to go in on the recovery due to the terrain being unmanageable for a little tyke in the dark, but she was happy to pose after we got him to the truck. Normally I would pass this buck and let him grow, but I don't regret shooting him one bit. Great hunt to share with my kid.
