Recently purchased a H&R Ultra Slug in 12 gauge. Looking for suggestions for a scope and rings. Mid range scope will do. Thanks in advance

Pending your distance you shoot (magnification your choice pending your area) . At least at minimum Bushnell Trophy series. If you can afford Leupold then do so. Standard Weaver Base. I prefer Warne Rings. And of course Trigger job.

On my fixed barrel rifled Ithica 87 Deerslayer I had a Bushnell Trophy XLT 1.75-4x scope with the circle X reticle. It's effective to farther than the 4x afforded me so I swapped it for the same scope in 3-9x.

This is third year since the swap, I pulled it out of the case and took it to the range to check zero. It put 3 slugs in a cloverleaf at 100yds-works for me!

I run a 2-7x Bushnell legend. Perfect for the application. I would consider a nikon prostaff 2-7 slug gun also. That is a very good scope for the price and application. Leupold is great, but I think you have to go with a VX-II to get much of an improvement over the others, and I don't personally see the justification in cost for shooting slugs at deer at reasonable range. One of my legends replaced a leupold 3-9 by the way because I like the legend that much. It has been some years now so not sure on current comparison.

i have the Mueller multi-dot. I used to be able to get a discount on them and for what I paid, I like the scope. Pretty decent optics and a lighted dot reticle is nice for low light.

just wish I had a 20ga USH rather than the 12 USH I have. just feels like I'm carrying around a javelin.

Javelin like the car AMC used to build?

I have a 20 with laminated stocks. Still plenty heavy but stable and lite recoil. One thing I did was take the steel rod out off the butt stock. That shave off a few pounds and balanced the gun on the hinge pin. Could be a little muzzle heavy with standard stocks, but that would be better than carrying the extra weight.

Javelin as in missile launcher.

Have a BSA scope that does well enough. But a little off topic, what ammo are you using? My slugger loves Rem. Accutips 3". The 2 3/4" work well too.

Javelin as in missile launcher.

I feel the same about my 12 ga Slugger, but about 50% of the the time on solid heart and lung shots the silly animals still take off running for 10-75 yards..... Not sure how they manage it but they do!

Last deer I got with my 12 ush with light field hybrids... I wasn't so impressed with the performance of the slug. Strangely it was like a puncture wound straight through. Entrance looked darn near identical to exit. They do group nice though outta mine. Silvertips were second best for me but it could really use a trigger job.

My Ithica 87 likes the Lightfields as well, I use the blue ones-hybred EXP's I think.

I have 2 H&R's

I am running a Leupold VXII 2-7. I have steel MILLET rings. set 3 inches high at 100 yards, Zero at 150, 4.7 inches low at 200 yards with Hornady SST's

With a range finder I have been taking deer consistently from 150 to 200 yards in the open fields of our place in Ubly, Michigan.

Amazing Gun

Not sure on your price range, but using a Dunhams 30% off coupon on a $230 leupold VX-ii is a great option. You can actually get the leupold shotgun/muzzleloader scope for around $140 using that code.

I would be all over that if the math worked and any of the Dunhams I have been in carried Leupold scopes. Redfield Revolution runs about $200 so about $140 plus tax with the coupon.

Dunhams in Fenton carries Redfield. And the one in Howell carries leupold, as well as Nikon, and Eotech.

Just an FYI

natchez has the 3x9x40 buckmaster with the bdc retical for 139.99, cant beat it for a shotgun scope, using the spot-on app, i shot the 3in federal copper trophy, and the 3in accutip,
