I have a springfield model 416 target .22 that I absolutely love to shoot. I was recently doing some research on it and came across these pictures of one for sale. What I want to know is what the tapered blocks on top of the barrel are for in these pictures. My gun has the screw holes for them but I don't have them. Are they quick changed scope mounts or what? Any help would be appreciated. Also do you have any recommendations or suggestions for putting a scope on this gun as I want to use it as a squirrel gun. Thank you for you time and here is the link to the gun I referred to.

Hi...welcome to MGO!

Are you talking about these dovetail mounts?

Looks like a scope mount for an Unertl scope

Yes, those are the mounts that I am talking about. Do you know what they are used for? And if you know what they are used for, where can I get the proper accessory or accessories for them? Also if you know where I can get a set of the dovetails would also help. Thank you for you time and any info you can give me.

You can begin the search on ebay (puke), or gunbroker and the like. I sold a similar scope several years ago on ebay when liquidating an estate. It went to a collector in France for about $900.00 plus shipping. Came with the original wood box and papers.

Thank you folks for all of the information I appreciate it. I will start my search for a scope and hopefully find one one day that I can afford.
