We don't have licenses to possess firearms in Mi. We do have a License to purchase a handgun, but after you have sent the registration in that's it.

According to the law we do.

Sec. 2. (1) Except as otherwise provided in this act, a person shall not purchase, carry, possess, or transport a pistol in this state without first having obtained a license for the pistol as prescribed in this section.

So this bill wants to create a license to possess a handgun. And the list of what you must pass for the license is huge and even includes if you are registered to vote. Plus it puts the decision of issuing the license or not directly in the hands of the local cop shop.

This bill is sponsored with a slew of "D" representatives, so it is just another "nibble/bite" out of RTKBA.

There is no "due process" involved to get on that list, and they won't even admit what the criteria is to be declared a "person of interest". No way in hell is it just cause to deny an individual access to registering a pistol under either 28.422/422a, which is what they are attempting to do.

The individual is not listed on the consolidated terrorist watch list maintained by the Terrorist Screening Center administered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The "D's" at Federal and State levels have declared all sorts of groups to me "terrorists", including our Veterans!

This one needs to DIE!

That has been in the law for a long time. It just was never "stated" that way.

If you don't have a "license" (permit to purchase) than you can't "possess" (own) the handgun.

But on the other hand, it would prevent known killers like the late Teddy Kennedy from being armed while in Michigan. (Him, and untold scads of others who ended up on the no-fly list for reasons unknown and unexplained.)

(But then, "on the gripping hand," it wouldn't prevent him from owning or transporting an automobile...)
