After this year's deer season, I have decided to replace my hunting coat with something bigger (ahem) and that is parka length and waterproof. I have been doing a little internet shopping at the big 3 (Cabelas, Gander, and Bass Pro), but have not found much, and I have a pretty good case of sticker shock. I'm not going to be a cheapskate, but sheesh! I'm not seeing anything for much south of $200!

So I thought I would come here and ask around a bit, and see if anyone had anyplace they like to go that isn't the big 3?

Jay's Sporting Goods in Clare or Gaylord.

William's Gunsight in Davison has a few clothes

Hick Tackle and Archery in Clio might have some clothes

Bares Sporting Goods in St.Charles.

Guns Galore in Fenton has some clothes

All kinds of Smaller shops would love your business.

If you are near St.Clair county, then VF Sports or Algonac Lumber Jack. The guys at VF are nice and helpful. They sell some high end stuff, but usually have it on clearance this time of year. Once upon a time I worked at Lumber Jack. I quit because I, and the rest of the staff, do not think very highly of the owner, but they have a variety of gear to choose from. I was able to get myself a $500+ mossy oak outfit for just over $300. They try to sell mainly high end stuff, but there is also allot of moderately priced gear there as well. They can and will special order you anything. Keep in mind that the stuff on the shelf will be priced rather well this time of year, but special orders will not.

I like Dicks sporting goods. If you wait till next ear right when they first put out all the hunting clothes you might find clothes left from this year at a very low price.

:yeahthat:

I'm a cheapskate. I have gotten fantastic deals at Dick's on their clearance and sales racks. My treestand, knife, boots, coat and bibs, and just about everything else, were bought there over the last few years. Oddly enough, the prices on their guns is high, even when they have a sale. Sign up for the discount card and you'll get some decent coupons in the mail also.

you got that right. Before the season I got a pair of fleece camo pants for $24 with a free subscription to field & stream or $10 rebate.

Some MC Sporting Goods stores have hunting stuff, but I think it's more seasonal with them.
