The new regulations state the following is legal the shotgun only zone. (South of Clare)

• A .35 caliber or larger rifle loaded with straight-walled cartridges with a minimum case length of 1.16 inches and a maximum case length of 1.80 inches.

Was thinking of doing a 450 Bushmaster upper, but for the price I am now leaning toward a lever or bolt gun in a heavy magnum pistol cartridge. Are there any nice rifles made for the 454 casull, or any other heavy pistol cartridge? Am I imagining the performance increase going to something bigger than the 44 mag? Are there old handi rifles that would be better chambered in 44 mag such as the old 10/44 Deer Slayer? In a deer gun I prefer light weight simple actions with fast sights and excellent wood/craftsmanship. Never been a 96 fan because of decocking problem, (cold hands and easing a hammer down doesn't sit well for me). Any suggestions?

I have a Marlin 1894 lever gun I used for cowboy action shooting, mine has the marbles tang site. I would not feel underpowered using that rifle in either 45 colt or 44 magnum for deer or boar hunting.
They are plentiful, handle well and are really fun to shoot.

This is not new, its been on for 2-3 years. The S&W 460 is a solid 250 yard round out of a rifle. There are a lot of people building 450 bushmaster bolt guns.

.50 Beowolf is an option. I use a .450 Bushmaster upper. LOVE, LOVE! Check the prices at Walsh Gun and Tackle in Caseville, MI. They were the cheapest in the country a year ago. I paid $615 and I chose the 16". I bet they get another shipment soon.

Also check out the .45 Raptor- essentially a rimless version of the .460 S&W. Blows your .454 Casull out of the water!

I went the route of the .45 Raptor on my LR308. FUN round, had to name the rifle Mr. Giggles because that has been everyone's first reaction when they shoot it. Accuracy @ 100 is damn good, haven't stretched it past that yet though.
