Hi, I am curious what size red dot might be best for handgun hunting with most shots probably about 25 yards maybe out to 50. I was thinking a vortex viper 6moa. Would the venom be better at 3moa? I would like to hear from people and have actually used various red dots. I know how moa works so I don't need theory. Thanks!!

Hi rick:

The ultra dot match dot is durable and accurate such that it is the red dot for bullseye competition. And it has variable size dot too. A bit pricey but worth it.

+1000 I have one on my M41 and wouldn't have anything else. It is adjustable through 2-4-6-8 MOA as well as dot or crosshairs.

That sounds cool. I'll check it out. If you could only use one moa, which would you pick?

What caliber of handgun (recoil consideration)?

My TRS-25's work well out to 50 with a 3 MOA. I prefer the 1 MOA in a circle personally. The 4-MOA ultra dot I had was okay, but started to feel a bit big. A 4 MOA on a deer at 50 yd is not that big, but I like to shoot farther for fun and work on smaller stuff. My personal choice would be a 2 MOA for accuracy work on a revolver or a carbine.

It's a personal pref, but I like dots in the 2MOA size range for just about everything .

For handgun hunting 3-4 MOA would be my preference. 6 is a bit large IMO. It is a personal preference, as stated. 6 covers a bit too much target for my liking.

I agree about the Ultra Dot. They are a durable, proven commodity....
