I'm getting a 16" AR shortly. It will be my up close gun.

I have always liked the eotechs but I just saw the thread from last year about issues?

1. Are eotechs still good? Have they fixed the prob?

Also I was thinking about doing the eotech with the flip out magnifier. Seems like a good system for an up close gun.

an eotech with the flip scope is a very heavy combo. I've got it on 2 rifles and I'm looking to replace them.
I would have sent them back to eotech already except i'm waiting to hear results from a class action lawsuit. no fix as far as I can tell.

So after doing some digging I don't think the thermal shift is something I need to worry about.
The eotech still seems like a great sight.

I'm a huge fan of the Vortex spitfire 1x. A bit cheaper and it has an etched, illuminated reticle that is still there if the battery quits.

whats your budget? If weight is not a consideration have you considered a 1-4/6? I'd suggest checking out the new Trijicon MRO and or vortex viper pst 1-4

For a budget optic, the Holosun's are getting great reviews everywhere and they can be had with a similar reticle to the Eotech. I just bought one and have yet to try it out, but I'm impressed with it so far.

If you can find a older model Leoplud cq-t mark 4. They are amazing and Leoplud if you send it back can change the rectile and magnification
