For Michigan deer hunting in the "shotgun zone":

c=Can you hunt with "handgun" calibers like 44 mag, 357, 500 S@W etc. You can in Indiana. Or does it have to be a shotgun?

Thanks

No only shotgun, straight wall handgun, or muzzleloader

No, but a sweet lever 44 mag is still high on my list. Brian

But you can hunt with pistols in rifle calibers as long as the cartridge is straight walled such as 444 Marlin and 45/70. I've always wanted a T/C Contender with a 14" 45/70 barrel for deer hunting here in the southern 1/2 of Michigan.

I think he was asking if you can hunt with a pistol in the shotgun zone that chambered a rifle round. The answer is yes, as long as it is a straight walled cartridge such as: 357 Remington, 357 Remington Maximum, 41 Magnum, 44 Magnum, 444 Marlin, and any other straight wall case that I failed to include.

45-70 is not a straight walled cartridge per say; is there an exception for that as it is a tapered case.

For hunting, a fully rifled slug gun will out preform a sub-rifle any day. The main drawbacks are recoil and ammo cost.

Yes you can. If you read the hunting rules, it states that CPL holders may still carry in according to the laws governing concealed carry. Just don't use you CC pistol to hunt with unless it is legal for the game you're hunting.
