I'm in the market for a spotting scope. I need something good enough to clearly see shots from a 5.56mm on a paper target at 100~150 yards. What do you recommend?

Just get something with good eye relief and an adjustable (if in your price range) observation lens. I was given a cheap Barska straight style piece for Christmas and I hate it. The eye relief is garbage and trying to use it off a bench rest will make your back look like you're possessed.

Keep in mind a GOOD tripod is important when looking for small holes at distance too.

80 mm Konus or a Celestron will accomplish what you are trying to do.

look at dedicated spotting scope stands & heads vs tripods too. Ray-Vin, Creedmoor Sports, Champion Shooter Supply, Gear Buggy, Giraud Tool just to name a few.

Take a look at the Vanguard Endeavor series of spotting-scopes. (http://www.vanguardworld.us/hunting_us/products/spotting-scopes.html)

At Woods 'n' Water this year there was a booth set up that had a number of them. I could adjust them to clearly see the weave and cracks in the vinyl printing on an awning 50~75 feet away, then turn them and look across S. Cedar (M-53) at the front of the strip mall, plainly seeing the twigs a bird's nest was made from on a sign a couple of hundred yards away.
