Hey guys:
I just picked up a DPMS .308 on black friday. I'm looking for scope and mount(and accessories!) ideas now, but I'm on a budget because I cannot control my gun buying! I didn't need this gun, the vault is full, but "it was a good price"... I need an intervention! This is my fourth AR, but the first in .308... All advice (except calling me a dumbass!) will be appreciated!
Regards,
Costanza

What about the Nikon P-308? 4-12x40. Generally $250 and under.

What would you consider a budget scope?

For the sub $100 best I have found is Centerpoint.

For sub $500 the Nikon P series seems to be a pretty good performer, and I have had good luck with Burris optics as well.

For sub $1000 (yes, for some that IS a budget scope) the Vortex Viper series seems to hold that ground very well.

For budget mount, my favorite is the Burris PEPR mount.

Burris Tac 30 with PEPR mount for $300 (http://www.cabelas.com/product/BURRIS-FULLFIELD-TAC-W-MOUNT/2195064.uts?productVariantId=4286637&WT.tsrc=PPC&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=04252518&rid=20&gclid=Cj0KEQiAperBBRDfuMf72sr56fIBEiQAPFXszS8cP4RA-27OlPBMtlrCynqDt3q-509C1Q3GTy0aPJcaAlDL8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds)

I have a couple Nikon P series scopes and a Vortex Diamondback. Both brands give a lot of performance despite their modest prices.
Lower end optics have come a long way in the last dozen years.
I have several 'affordable' class Leupold scopes and they are excellent. You can pick up some decent Vari-X II and Vari-X III scopes from the Optics Planet discount page, as well as offerings from other companies, for reasonable prices. Most are 'display' models that have light wear/imperfections, but I've never got a bad scope. http://www.opticsplanet.com/demo.html

I have one of those E1 3-9's in my shopping cart. I have the 2-7 E1 ballistic plex on my 450 bushmaster. I got it for a real good price this time last year. I have used it on my 5.56 upper also. I like it. I am thinking of putting the 3-9 on a Ruger American 450 BM.

I saw a vortex Dimond back 3.5-10x50 on Cabelas also for 149.99. I think it would be a great option.

Optics Planet had some good deals with 11% of and free shipping. I just picked up a redfield revolution 2-7 for my 77/44.

I use these which have 120 MOA of windage & elevation, come in 6x,10x,12x,16x, & 20x. They had a Thanksgiving sale for $259 with free 30mm rings in low, med or high & a free scope level. Full warranty, no time limit, no receipt, no questions asked & are bulletproof. Best scope for under $800 IMHO. SWFA is a great company.

The American Defense Recon 30 mm mount is rock solid. The LaRue mount is very good. I have both and the AD is every bit as good for $50 less.
