Fuel Fire Desire

While keeping in the spirit of an ultralight AR build Ive been working on, I set out to find the lightest optic I could. The new Sig Romeo line really caught my eye, especially the Romeo4 with its EoTech-like 65 moa reticle, but ultimately picked up the Romeo3 simply for weight savings.
Its another micro reflex to compete with the likes of the Deltapoint, Fastfire, Trijicon RMR, etc. 3 moa dot, locking 1 moa adjustments, 9 brightness settings (two NV compatible), IPX-7 waterproof, motion activated on/ off, and 1.4oz. Comes with a flush mount and co-witness mount for AR's. I wish I knew what the weight of the AR mount was, but I don't have a scale sensitive enough to find out, and its not published anywhere. Honestly, the trestle bridge mount, and the way the machine work on the sight flow into the mount, was one of the big reasons I chose the Sig over a Deltapoint (which I love). That, and I jumped to the conclusion that the included mount was probably lighter than most co-witness risers available.
Its surprisingly well made. Well along the lines of what a Deltapoint is. Since its most likely a re-branded unit that carries a firearm manufacturer's name, I was a little worried it might be on the cheap side. But handling a Romeo4 in a store and seeing how well made and thought out it was gave me confidence to dive into this. The machine work is precise on all of the included pieces. The low rise mount has two stainless steel pins pressed into the mount to center the unit on the plate. A nice touch when they easily could have saved money by simply casting the lugs into the mount. The lines on the optic match up perfectly with the co-witness mount, as if they were machined as a single unit.

I know its petty, but the packaging and presentation is superb. Instead of the typical card paper box and plastic tray, this comes in a hologram sealed thick walled and hinged cardboard case with multiple layers of board and cut foam. It genuinely reminds me of a case a $1000-$1500 watch would come in. Very well thought out and put together. Sig spent some good money on having this packaging designed and made.

While looking through it, the frame around the glass seems to disappear. It has a very low profile. The glass itself is AR coated, and substantially thick. Again, robust and well made. The dot itself is not represented well in pictures, as I think the pure laser red color confuses my iPhone, but in reality it is a super clean crisp dot with no glare or distortion.

The AR mount is QD, but what wasn't made apparent in descriptions online was that the QD lever is retained by a checkered release button so it doesn't get snagged and pulled up. A very nice touch.

The going rate for these online (I haven't seen one is a store yet) is $400. I looked around for a while trying to snag the best price I could, but everyone seems to be right at that $399.99 mark.....EXCEPT for the place where I got mine. I got it from a shady looking place that sold everything from computers to shoes. Online ratings of the place (Universal Mania) seemed to be nearly all positive, except for customer service with those people that had issues. I think I got lucky and snagged it for a too-good-to-be-true price of $299 shipped. Showed up in less than a week.
Im not concerned with having to deal with that online store again, as Sig put an full transferrable lifetime warranty on it. Something I haven't seen on an electro-optic before.
Im very satisfied with it so far, especially for $299 with an ultralight co-witness mount.
