This is good news.
Still not sure I'd use one. I WANT one, but it would probably just sit in the safe.

I have a 1955 Springfield from CMP that I love, but I'd really like an older walnut stock version.
Mine is a lighter wood, possibly beech.

Yes, that is the same dilemma that i have. I am not much of an iron sights rifke shooter.

Yes, I believe that our membership counts for the CMP.

I'd definitely like to get one just as a shooter. I still haven't shot the '42 in my safe and probably never will... At this point, I'm thinking about just doubling up on grease and wrapping it in wax paper :-/

Guys, the deal is not confirmed:

"There are 86,000 or so M1s hopefully coming back to the Army. We hope to see them in the future."

But I remain hopeful.

That is how I found MGO several yrs ago...I had a list of affiliates from CMP and MGO was on it.

I feel the same way ... but everyone needs to own a Garand .... don't we? Another problem for me will be it adds another caliber to the fold so I'll just have an extra couple thousand rounds of ammo that I won't ever shoot.

:D Not if the rifle just stays in the safe. No need!

What's the purpose of buying a Garand if you're not going to shoot it? They're a blast!

That is very logical .... but what does logic have to do with it? I have 2K of 7.62 x 39 for an SKS that I never shot and then sold...... so I had to buy a Radical Firearms AR pistol chambered for the ammo .... still haven't shot that yet either. And I have 1 or 2k of 8mm for a Mauser I haven't shot, and 2 of the 880 round spam cans for my Mosin that I haven't shot. What good is a rifle if you don't have any ammo for it? :)

So, maybe I better stock up on some 30.06 so I'll be ready when this batch of Garands comes home to the USA! :)

you mean military 30 cal. modern 30.06 is not good for garands unless you modify the gas system
so now you have 2 more calibers to buy instead of just one.

The nitty gritty about buying a rifle from the CMP

http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sales/eligibility-requirements/

bottom of the page shows what is currently offered via luck of the draw ordering

http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sales/m1-garand/

or you can call the CMP North Store @ Camp Perry in Port Clinton, OH between Thursday and Saturday and ask what is on hand. If they have a grade you are looking for drive down, hand pick and walk out with your new rifle.

then come and shoot her with us!

The article on TFB, as since been updated...

Nathaniel F. • 2 days ago

I received an email from Gina Johnson this morning requesting that I publish a revised quote which is less explicit than the previous one published at the M1 Garand Enthusiast Group on FB. I revised the article to be a little more toned down to match, although so far as I know the facts haven't changed, really. The CMP is usually pretty tight-lipped about getting weapons in until they are actually in their hands, which is fine.

Just didn't want anyone to feel gaslighted by the edit, hahah.

Word has it that the majority of the guns are in very rough condition. It will take months if not years before these are sorted out and made available.

I can't see why they wouldn't. You can call them. By all accounts they are pretty helpful.

Does the CMP require you to be a paying member of MGO, or is the affiliation by joining for free also valid for it?

Most of the things I've seen on their site have a fee for registering with them as an affiliate, just wondering.

Club membership means you must be a member of an affiliated club. Just because you have a forum user name here does not make you a MGO member. There is a long list of affiliated clubs and organizations. Most gun clubs are affiliated. So is MRPA. Most ppl without an affiliation will join the GCA to meet the requirement.

I've been paying for, and using, various forums for 20+ years. I even ran a 24/7, 3 node, Dial-up BBS (Hartland Pride BBS) for 14 years before the I-net came around. I charged for extra access.
25 bucks is well worth the price to be a member here.

Ya obummers ban the import then do to "gang violence " I've never heard of a drive by with an M1. I've wanted an M1 forever can't justify 1000 dollars for one. I can't wait for these to get here.

If you are talking from the CMP, you have to fill out the paperwork you can get online and send it to them. They will then send you a rifle in a hardcase to your house.
