Hope I spelled it right.

I read that the army is in the process of transferring 99,000 more rifles to the CMP.

I thought that it was 1911’s.

Regardless of which get released by the CMP, they'll probably be over-priced.

They were supposed to get about 86k from the Philippines.

Think I heard about the Korean Garands as well at some point, I just put my order in for a Garand from the CMP but I'd love to see some more come in.

From what I understand about 86,000 M1 rifles has been repatriated from the Philippines and 13,000 from Turkey. All were part of the MAP Program originally. They been returned to the US Army and are now in the pipeline at the CMP being processed in Anniston. The 1911/A1's, about 8,000, are also at the CMP waiting to be processed and will likely be available for sale by mail only in approximately 3-4 months. Over priced? I think not. You can buy a "Service Grade" M1 from the CMP for about $730. Compare that to the $1000 rifles you see in pawn shops or at gun shows.

To buy from they you have to be a member of a club or something like that. Kind of leaves some of us out in the cold.

Being a paid member of Mi Gun Owners qualifies you.

Those requirements are not as ridged as you appear to assume.

Are you a US Citizen?

You should have something to prove that.
Are you a member of an affiliated organization?

Even I can see that you are, MGO is listed as such.
Have you participated in some form of a marksmanship program?

Most people balk at this one. Do you have a CPL? that qualifies. So do quite a number of other "shooters clinics"

I would guess that you do qualify, without having to do anything at all.

Will they transfer a 1911 or a Garand to a C&R license holder or do they require you to go through an FFL?

The 1911s (when they are available) will have to go through an FFL. The Garands they will ship to your front door.

I'm actually waiting on my CMP Garand currently. Be prepared for a bit of a wait though, I think I'm just over 2 weeks in and just got the e-mail saying "we've received your order but it still needs to go into our Sales Dept. and then into Shipping". I agree that they are by far the cheapest at $730 with free shipping and no FFL fee.

I paid $25 for a year membership at a Garand collector's club which satisfied the club requirement.

You could have paid $25 to MGO and satisfied the requirement as well.

ha. you think thats a wait...

my first was close to 2 months and even THAT was fast considering back when the DCM was the organization handling them, your "one garand per lifetime" allotment could take a year or more to be delivered...

Exactly! "Kids" nowadays don't know how easy they have it. :) Didn't the requirements used to be harder, also? I remember taking a "DCM M1 Garand" class.

I purchased my "one per lifetime" Garand in the middle 90s, waited almost two years. Multiple forms, fingerprints, proof of "qualified" competition'; back then, I shot mid-range (200 - 600 yards with iron sights), high power rifle (any centerfire cartridge) at the National Matches at Camp Perry - no CMP stores in those days. You got what you got, delivered by the U.S. Post Office. Much about DCM / CMP has changed since then, largely for the better.

Guess I'm just used to being able to pick up something via Gunbroker and have it at my FFL's door within a week :P
