I have an old H & R single shot 16ga. that wont dent the primer on a snap cap. I can't figure out how to get it apart to inspect since it looks like I would have to drill/grind rivots and don't want to do that as this gun is beautiful for its age and has tremendous sentimental value. It hasn't been fired in over 30 years. I have doused it in oil and still no change. Any suggestions on where to take it near downriver or what to do on my own to possibly fix it?

hmmm either:

-your firing pin isn't moving, or the tip is gone.or
-your hammer spring is weak. or
-1/2 cock hammer block is getting in a way at full cock.

I would call Mike at Schupbach's (http://www.schupbachs.com/). He is a excellent gunsmith.

My uncle had one of those, it was pined not riveted and they only can be driven in one direction, there was no hammer block only a 1/2 cock safety.... sitting that long could have caused to old oil to dry and glue the firring pin in place, they removing all the wood and giving it a good overnight soak with some break parts cleaner, then try an old shell with a new primer....
