And what is the time that the meeting is called to order?

fbuckner
06-22-2009, 08:37 PM
Meeting will be called to order at 12:00 sharp. I would bring a chair just to take a load off unless you feel like standing. I should have a few extra chairs around here somewhere.

Thank you. While I am not wanting for dishes, chairs, or ideas....they tend to rub folks the wrong way so, I might just show up to see for myself what the originators of some of these wonderful posts look like in person.

The mental imagery I have now....well.....belongs in the barn yard I guess....

It's 2.25 hours over there

I would have to come alone, which I'm not used to, or convince my wife to drive 5 hours there and back to meet a bunch of strangers.

But, I have two weeks to work on it. I will try. She's a good kid, she hasn't butchered me in my sleep yet!

I hope you can make it. You cannot believe how nice it is to be able to put faces with the people you converse with here on MGO. They are a special group of people. The people who are involved in the organization do some truly wonderful things, and it puts a lot in perspective. MGO is NOT just a forum. It is a group of grass roots activists who do a lot to promote gun safety and the shooting sports. Please consider making the effort. I think you and your wife might be pleasantly surprised.

hey hey I would very much like to come to this. I remember reading about it last year, but I had to go to an annual softball game in howell for work :/. My girlfriend lives in Howell, so I think I'll just go pick her up and we'll drive on over (I've gotten her all pumped about purchasing guns and exercising rights...but first I have to get her to stop buying me guns and get them for herself, but that's harder said than done!). I as well am going to be a stranger to everyone. What do yall do at these meetings, and what is the voting for? Do you carry to this? Open or concealed? But yeah, if you can sum it up for me real quick what it's all about, I'd like to stop by and meet you all.

Meanwhile, maybe you will get lucky and have somebody that has been there before tell you what goes on. I never have been but, keep hearing stories of goats and rolling down hills and all sorts of things....

Is this list up to date? Are these candidates all approved? How many can be voted for?

This is not a ballot.

Are there proposed changes to the by-laws to be voted on?

Do I have to ask in another area?

Yes, we are supposed to vote on the proposed Bylaws. I "believe" it will be yes for pass, no for leave them like they are. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So basically, a week before the vote, we have no ballot. You have to search around the site to find discussion spread between several threads to learn anything, and nothing is actually "official".

Simply F-in amazing.

No, it is not a ballot, but the list has been changing nearly by the day as it comes down to the wire. The ballot will be published soon, I'm sure. Remember, there is no absenteeism ballot, so the actual ballot really only needs to be available at the annual meeting.

That was discussed recently, too. As it stands...that is exactly what a vote by proxy is...

However, KayL has volunteered to be a proxy and and promised to vote according to the member's wishes on behalf of that member.

Since I can't see what we're voting on until it's handed out at the meeting, either I just trust someone's opinion and take it as my own, or we'd have to do it over the phone. Silly.

Sounds like all will have a good time. I won't be able to make it this year. Past four months I have been one of the primary caregivers for my 86 year old father-in-law. He passed just before 1 am on Monday morning and his funeral is on Friday. Family meetings and getting things settled before other family leaves for Florida will occupy my weekend.

Shame too, on my days off I made 2 types of pierogi and was going to make at least a couple types more to bring to the picnic until things spiraled downward for my father-in-law. Will have to find another time to bring them too.

You all have fun.

Pretty

YOU Will be missed. Our thougts and prayers are with you and your family. I appreciate your quiet steady presence when you attend our events....

:cruc:May His Peace and Comfort be with you and yours today.

Mark

p.s.
I will miss the pierogies too....but I hear they do freeze and reheat well.....

Kay, if we have absentee ballots for next years election it could be a mess.

it may be best to keep it plain and simple.

There's no reason why someone who is at the meeting cannot get a ticket for a door prize. And if someone is not at the meeting... guess what... you don't get a ticket, you don't get a door prize, you don't have to bring a dish to pass and you don't get to eat or shoot in the back or talk to your friends. THAT'S THE WAY IT WORKS!

There is no reason to punish everyone for the ridiculous demands of one person.

Yes...we're not sending these people food and high definition video of the meeting either...door prizes are for those who are there.

There's always someone who will complain about something...can't let one person ruin it for everyone.

"Door Prizes" should be reserved for those arriving at the "door"...as an incentive to be there in person.

I was hoping that we might be back in time for the election/meeting, however, that didn't quite happen. I am curious though...was the election/meeting done from 12pm - 1pm, as planned...or did it go on later into the afternoon?

If I had come by, it would have been closer to 3pm...so I figured it would have been too late for pretty much everything at that point...

The meeting started around 12:30 or so and was probably at least 1.5 hours...maybe longer as we voted during the meeting. Most people seemed to stay until 3-4pm so you still could've hung out with everyone for a while.

we have always let Proxy voters join in with the door prizes just because they made the effort to vote.

next year we may not have proxy voting but absentee ballots. and we can't really penalize someone who lives 3 hours from the meeting but still votes.

if we take away door prizes every one is being treated equally

we'll need to work something out for next year.

KayL
07-19-2009, 09:41 PM
Ballots are about voting. The ballots are fair. That's the point of trying to go from proxy to absentee ballots - to be more fair.

Meetings are about meeting with people in person. Door prizes are for in-person meetings. You can't expect someone who is not there to share the in-person activities!!! Having a door prize for someone who attends a meeting is a perk. You are not 'penalizing' someone if they don't show up!

How are we penalizing anyone? The door prizes can be separate from the meeting...in fact that's how they were at this meeting.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the annual meeting open to the public? By that I mean AM and CM's...so there may have been or could be people at these meetings that win a door prize and are not allowed to vote.

The door prize is a bonus for coming out to socialize after the meeting, and NOT as something everyone who votes gets entered into. If that's not that case now it should be next year. In fact whoever is hosting the next meeting can handle the door prizes so that the board is not involved and no one can piss and moan about it.

And to keep it REALLY PLAIN AND SIMPLE I guess we should just forget about the annual meeting too then?

Door Prizes are to try to get people to show up to the DOOR.

It's an incentive for showing up!

OK. I was just going by the "Meeting will start PROMPTLY at 12:00" and "the pig roast will be served at 1:00" statements previously published. Even though those times evidently weren't adhered to, 3pm would have been the winding down time, so it would have been silly to show up as people are starting to leave...

I'm sorry....I"M SORRY...I'm really truly sorry I need to say this but you've all been doing it wrong all this time....sorry.

But that really doesn't matter now does it.

The 2009 MGO Annual Meeting was yesterday and there's nothing we can do about the past.

But we can fix things for next year.

"treated equally"

Do AM get to vote? well thats not fair...

It's simple:

You want to vote, pay $25 for an annual membership.

Want a door prize? Show up to the door.

Absentee ballots - yes

Door prizes for meeting attendees - yes

Have ONE prize given ONLY to a person randomly selected out of all absentee voters and shipped to them USPS flat rate Priority on MGO's dime - maybe (a gas card would probably be a good prize  )

So, are you advocating "must be present to win"?

If so, that would have made me ineligible as I had to leave during the break in the meeting to head back to central Michigan to attend another event.

I have never heard of a door prize being a bonus for coming out to socialize after a meeting. Perhaps had the meeting started as posted and concluded as posted that would have been possible for me but....

Don't get me wrong....I am not whining. It is just that our organization appears to be in need of a bit more organization. With more people getting involved, that will be a heck of alot easier to accomplish.

I think being present is the right way to do it for all. I believe most events do it that way. They can't be shipping things all over the state; it would be cost prohibitive.

You were present for most of the meeting so you were eligible. The fact that you had to leave early would be an extenuating circumstance since the drawing wasn't held before you had to leave. You could have asked someone there to pick up your drawing if you won and saved it for you. If anyone nitpicks that you weren't there for the actual drawing is really splitting hairs.

jcurtis

I do advocate "present to win" for door prizes as long as it is clearly stated before hand. Now that doesn't automatically mean "present at the time of the drawing to win". Door prizes should be given to those who actually make it to the event, even if they are unable to stay the entire time.

The issue at hand, that LarryBob tried to point out, is that this was not clearly stated. In fact he was eligible to win through a proxy but his proxy was not aware that he had to fill out a drawing slip for all of his proxies. Had there been better communication before the event this would not have been an issue. I cannot say whether the communication at the event was sufficient as I was not there.

Hopefully now that the elections are over we can concentrate on getting more people involved with MGO and one of the first steps we need to take is better communication on all fronts.
