I am tying to reblue a star model b. Does anyone know of a good at home bluing product. Or am I better off paying someone to duracoat or reblue it?

I've always had great results with the Birchwood Casey Super Blue product. Most gun shops carry it and it's simple to do.. If you do a search on youtube, you'll find lots of instructional videos on "cold" bluing...

I've had excellent results with several of Brownell's cold blues, I won't use anything else.

Have you successfully re-blued an entire gun using a cold bluing process?

Two different products and I have not had any success. Birchwood Casey did not work for the full frame. I think I am going to Duracoat it this weekend if I can find Duracoat without ordering it.

Joel,
If you want to mess with duracoat, come on over and I have some left over you can have. Free. I wont ever use it, its an inferior product to what I use now, so its just wasting away here. I think there is black and silver, maybe another color, some hardner and reducer as well.
As for reblue/black, if you wanted to go that route I can redo the gun in a standard hot black for $100 for a factory type finish, if you want it to be a deep color ( like a SW revolver ) then prices can go up to $300.

Shoot me a message if you want that duracoat stuff.

I've used cold bluing to finish a few rifles and a revolver all came out awesome.
The amount of work all depends on the original finish. The key to getting a nice finish is metal prep. Any dings or pitting will show up even more once you re-blue.
Like I said I got good results, but I also spent hours upon hours sanding and polishing....... You might just be better off sending it to Todd.

Yes Sir; two shotguns and an old .22 LR plinker. I have not done an entire pistol (yet) but am looking for a candidate upon which to practice.

A lot of prep work, a lot of patience, and a lot of time with 0000 stainless wool, but the end results were excellent; the owners were very pleased.

I'm doing a old Savage 110 now; if I ever get time to finish that project, I'll post a few pic's.

i redid a magazine with birchwood casey perma blue and it looks great, and a super simple process only takes about 5 minutes.

Birchwood chasey cold blue that's available in most stores is only good for temporary touch up. It lacks great in wear resistance and will wear off in no time.

Blue Wonder is lot better product.

Wow, this stripping and rebluing is a lot more fun than I thought.
I'm in the process of "cleaning" an old shottie for Dad, badly rusted and well, just plain nasty looking.
By the time it's done, it won't look new but it will look a lot better than it has since he's owned it. Pics and details will follow.

i used blue wonder after someone else suggested it and i watched the youtube video.

i am really happy with the results and I completely reblued an SKS, and the bluing came out as dark as WASR's factory blue.

birchwood works good i have found out that if you warm the barrel up a bit before blueing it it works better...and always rinse it with hot water and make sure you put like 4-5 coats on it..steel wool with 000 fine wool and clean off the barrel each time with alcohol or carb cleaner works very well..but remember also the steel you are about to blue has to clean all the way to the bare..and keep it degreased cause the oils from your hands can leave finger prints in the blue...
