I have a Tok I want to refinish myself to save money (and for fun.) I want it to look as close to the original blued finish from factory as possable. Heres the problem:

I had the safety hole welded in to make it more original, and the guy TIG welded it with stainless! :| So now if I blue it like normal, there will be a spot where the stainless is.

The question is, what product can I use to refinish this gun cleanly so it looks as close to the factory bluing as possable? I have a spray gun, so duracoat is an option, but I'm skepital on how close the "Gun Blue" color is to real gun blue. Does anyone have pictures of that particular color? Any ideas?

P.S. I don't want to go back and have him reweld it because the shop owner was nice enough to do it for free! Nice guy. Plus, if I remember right from my TIG welding days, you can't weld stainless or stainless/steel with steel rods, only stainless steel rods.

Thanks for the input!

Let me check what I have. I might have something for you to work with on the cheap side.

The cold bluing stuff does not work for redoing whole guns. It is not a very durable finsh and rubs off easily. I am told that it works well for rebluing small scratches and screwheads.

Sorry I have not found a product that works well for rebluing a whole gun. Tonight I am going to test a grill spray paint finish that I put on tuesday, but do not have high hopes for it.

Do it yourself, the Duracoat in Gun Blue looks good and should cost you less than $50.
