Ok, the only answer I get on AR15.com is "clean it again" or "put 500 rounds through it".

I don't have 500 extra rounds to put through it and I've cleaned it enough.

The problem is this. The nose of the first round in a fresh mag hits the face of the breach about .070" below the cha**** on the back of the chamber. When I shot it for the first time it would jam every fifth round or so after I got the first round to chamber. Out of 200 rounds I got one magazine to fire 29 rounds and the last round in each if 4 different mags would stub.

I want to take the existing cha**** (ramp) and extend it down to the point where the rounds stub but go no deeper forward into the chamber than where the existing cha**** goes.

If I take the gun apart, insert a mag and push the first round forward with my finger it hits the face of the breach where I described earlier.

Does anyone have any recommendations before I start grinding and polishing?

Thanks.

Oh, it's Romanian.

Add a bullet guide.

x2 sounds like somebody decided to skip a step on single stack conversion

That's interesting. There's a small "ramp" just in front of the chamber mounted to a block in the bottom of the receiver. Is that the bullet guide? There's witness marks from the rounds I fired on it.

Stock 30 rounders I picked up at Gibralter.

Four of them give the same results.

Inspect the feed by removing top cover, bolt group, spring, etc.Load a mag with a couple rounds and try feeding using the top of a stick pen. If this was a single stack conversion, there were originally tabs on both sides to steady the single stack mags. Possible that they were machined enough for mag to go in, but not enough to let mag seat properly. If the mag is seated properly, you should see a very slight incline of the front of the mag in relation yo the guide rail.

I'll check that next.

The Bullet Guide is in place and there's witness marks from the first few mags I put through it. I think I may need to build it up a bit or as stated above check the angle of the mag when they're seated.

Does the forward movement of the bolt forcing the cartridge into the bullet guide cause it to "bounce" up toward the chamber or should it be more of a controlled feeding?

I know, I could fins all of this out on my own but it's cool having a conversation about guns and working on them without people giving me "that" look.

Thanks for all of the input.

A little late but here's an update.

I fixed the mag wobble by gluing a couple pieces of sheet metal to the inside of the receiver on each side and sanding them down until all of my mags would load.

I fixed the feed issue by using a dremel to put a VERY slight ramp on the face of the breach below the chamber. Gave it just enough angle to feed the tip of the round up into the chamber.

Then I painted it with a pine straw cammo pattern.

Test fired it a couple weeks ago and was flawless, feeding every round and no hiccups.

I can try and post pictures if anyone wants to see the chamber, if you have the same issue with feeding or I can email them.

Glad it worked out for you. Darn things are pretty much idiot proof, but occasionally one will need a little tweek.

I'll work on some pics this weekend.

I have to figure out photobucket or one of the other picture hosting sites.
