sure would be nice if this went a step further and prevented employers from preventing employees with CPLs from carrying at work...

that said, this is important especially if you work for a company in a highly liberal area of the state...

Anybody know what the next step is that we need to support? Who should we write to to find out?

once again, I'm horrible at writing these types of things, so if anybody has something that can be re-utilized that would be great.

Here's a guide on letterwriting for the purpose:
http://www.ehow.com/how_2118434_write-proper-letter-legislators.html

Instructions
Step 1
Addressing a congresswoman or congressman properly: Begin with the title "representative".

Step 2
Addressing a senator properly: A letter to a senator should begin with the title "to the Honorable" follwed by their name.

Step 3
Write legibly. Handwritten letters are preferrable; be sure they are readable.

Step 4
Be brief and to the point. Discuss only 1 issue in each letter and if you are writing about a specific piece of legislation identify the bill by number and title if possible.

Step 5
If writing a personal letter use your own stationery and words.

Step 6
If you are writing as a group representative, use the organizations letterhead unless you are affiliated with a not for profit agency.

Step 7
Letterwriting and not for profit programs, agencies or organizations: If you work or volunteer at a not for profit business DO NOT use the group's letterhead, pens or pencils, envelopes, and stamps. Write your letter at home (http://www.ehow.com/how_2118434_write-proper-letter-legislators.html#) and mail it from home or the post office.

Tips & Warnings

Not for profit organizations and agencies recieve some kind of partial or full government funding.
Government funding cannot be used to promote a specific issue, candidate or political pary or to purchase the supplies and stamps to mail letters.
In the post 9/11 world, be careful that none of your wording or how you address an issue or bill can be taken out of context and construed as being threatening or anti government.
With the media and social networking websites like you tube take extra care that nothing in your letter can be taken out of context as being sexually, racially, or culturally insensitive.

PhotoTom, I respectfully disagree with the e-how instructions. As far as I am concerned, if most politicians had any honor, we wouldn't be in the mess that this great country is in. Honor is for those who do what is right, moral, and honest. IMO, honorable is an oxymoron for politician.

I rec'd that info, too...however, I'm confused in that I don't see where it ever came out of the committee on labor, passed the House OR Senate...I don't see where it was read a second and third time...yet it already says the Governor has "approved" it and it has been assigned a "PA" number and filed with the Secretary already...?

What does that mean in English for someone not up on political processes ?

This may explain something.....Two bills assigned the same PA number.

Yes...and I see where HB 5530 (http://legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?2009-HB-5530) (not to be confused with THIS bill, 5330) went though the "normal" process, as described above.

I think this legislation alert/update was a clerical error...

A quick search shows that Both HR 5330 AND HR 5530 have been assigned PA 51'10. Could there be a typo in a database somewhere that is the source for the MCL web pages?
