Ive heard that you can use a rifle if it is in a pistol caliber. such as a .44 mag rifle. would an M1 Carbine be in that list of allowed "rifles" used in livingston county?

(of course a carbine isnt the best suited weapon for deer hunting) but im curious.

No to deer hunting
Yes to predators/small game just not at night or during FA deer season.

Currently NO rifles can be used in the 'shotgun zone' during firearm deer season.

If you want to however, feel free to go bunny or squirrel hunting with your 30-06, 444 Marlin or 460 Weatherby though.

I honestly hope MI does, at some point, allow the use of rifles shooting straight-wall pistol cases for deer hunting in the 'shotgun zone'. Indiana recently went this way as well as some other states. I fail to see the sense in why I can use my 44 Mag pistol for deer but my 44 Mag lever gun is off limits... but I can place the same .429" projectile into a sabot in my ML and load it atop 100+ grains of Pyrodex and be perfectly legitimate.

A friend of mine in Indiana is in the process of compiling the goods he needs to convert his AR over to fire the 458 SOCOM - that's a bottleneck case that Indiana has given the nod to for their firearm deer hunting season.

Should just stop there. All rifles should be allowed. Muzzle loaders and shotguns have come a long way and the distance that each can shoot is far closer to the rifle than it was when the zone was put into place. There have also been studies done that show slugs and sabots have a much higher potential to ricochet.

Hopefully this becomes law, then we would be able to, if it meets the specs.

You CAN currently use rifles that are classified as pistols due to MI law...this would be any rifle with 16" barrel and OAL between 26 and 30" with the stock unfolded/not collapsed. Still must be straight walled cartridge over .35".

Side folding 44 lever action anyone?

They make side folder stocks for lever guns? That'd be awesome...dare I say even a good trunk gun......

Somebody I know has a Marlin 357 with a micro aimpoint on top of it....certainly capable.

I'm sure putting a folding mechanism on it is doable.

I googled it and couldn't find much...but you could probably find a way to adapt an AK wire folder to a cut off lever action stock...

Would this mean my .357 Winchester Trapper could be classifed as a pistol?
