Hm.. I guess I'm interested in knowing more about this, and what it pertains.

Edit: MICPL got to it before I did.

Help me understand this please.

Upon a quick read of the proposed added language, it looks like a simple "making it clear" type thing...

The added language is bold:

(g) The regular and ordinary purchase, possession, and transportation of a pistol as merchandise by an authorized agent of a person licensed to manufacture firearms or by a licensed dealer.

So, the current version reads:

(g) The regular and ordinary transportation of a pistol as merchandise by an authorized agent of a person licensed to manufacture firearms or a licensed dealer.

So wait, does this mean I couldn't buy from a private owner anymore and would have to go through an FFL?

I'm still not getting this.

Existing law is that you need a purchase permit to purchase, carry, possess, or transport a pistol in MI unless you fit into one of the exceptions (e.g., have a CPL) and as long as you qualify (not a felon, etc.).

Also, if you are a licensed dealer or manufacturer, you are currently allowed to transport, but not possess or purchase a handgun, without having a PP first.

The proposed law appears to add the ability to possess or purchase and not just transport, without a PP, if you are a licensed dealer or manufacturer.

This law probably affects only a few of us, but makes some sense to me.

I think it's just a FIX because of the abolishment of the "Safety Inspection"

When they abolished the Safety Inspection it effected other laws, this is to correct one of them.
