I am a 27 year old CPL holder going deer hunting for the first time this fall with a seasoned hunter.

The question is do I need to take a hunters saftey class to buy a deer permit? or are there any exemptions for age or other licenses?

Thanks!

P.S. I fully intended to take the course, just not sure if ill be able to sneak it in before Nov 15th.

I don't thing you need to take a course at your age. And I don't think CPL has anything to do with it. A hunter saftey course is a good idea though, it will help with safety if you're hunting in either public or private land. Time is short so:

If your friend knows the laws and saftey, and you're sure of it, you can trust his guidance. That is your choice.

Good luck and be safe!

• Michigan's Hunter Education Program
Hunter education in Michigan has taught thousands of people safe hunting techniques, firearm handling and hunter ethics. Hunter safety is required if you were born after January 1, 1960 and you want to purchase any Michigan hunting license, or if you are planning an out-of-state hunting trip.

I have no idea how the apprentice thing works (well I know but not at what age it ends if at all). Maybe you can go that rout. I'll see what i can find.

Now,, if you have time I say definatly take the class but if time is short just make sure you have an experienced hunter with you over the age of 21 and hav at it.

apprentice hunter wont work for you. try doing the online study and figure a way to get youre hands on portion. You will need to take the last part of the class in the class room and do the range time ( if its offered) check the dnr website to see if there are any upcoming classes. Unfortunately you may be out of time or running very short. Good Luck:thumbup:

apprentice hunter wont work for you.?.

Why is that?Ditto on the why? The OP stated he will be with an experienced hunter, and the DNR link provided by Garbo makes no mention of upper age limit.

When you buy the license and then sign it, the fine print that no one reads, certifies that you meet the ed requirements. Signing and not meeting is some big fine.
