How they feel about steel jacketed ammo?

Joeywhat
12-02-2009, 11:25 AM
No steel jacket ammo. I don't think they allow steel case, either.

They do have ammo for sale at the shop, I don't know the prices.

Indoor range. Heated, though I was there last night for a league shoot and it was kinda chilly. Well lit. With enough persuasion they might be convinced to turn off the lights for some low light shooting.

16 lanes, 25 yd. Pistol caliber carbines welcome. According to the signs posted on each lane: no Wolf/Russian, no 100% lead except .22LR.

Extensive rental selection.

As mentioned above, no range fees the night of the event, courtesy of MGO.

Might be, I really don't know...I thought it was .44 mag and lower but didn't check.

If you know they allow it then bring it out. It's the same range rules as every other day.

I could see people going both ways on this, but Ill mention it anyways and let each decide for themselves. It might behoove people to list what they can bring and are willing to let others shoot so 28 people don't show up with Beretta 92f's.

Guns I'll almost for sure bring

8" S&W 460
milspec operator
6" mkIII trooper
and a 9mm feg(hi power clone)

Doubt I'll cart out any carbines.
Welllll, maybe my galil. I haven't shot that turd in awhile and I can fold it up small enough.

As for food, I can bring 3 or 4 loaves of homemade bread and some sarsaprilla. Maybe if I'm feeling real froggy I can cook up some homemade ice cream.

Oh yeah, something I'd like to shoot if someone has one is a bobtailed 45. Pretty sure I'd like to have that done to mine.

My wife and I plan on attending (it'll be our first MGO event).
It's a very nice range (been there twice now) that has plenty of stuff in the store to drool over and many pistols to rent.
We tried a Glock 27 last time, I think it was $10 plus a box of their ammo.
I could bring our Kel-Tec Sub2000 (.40 S&W Glock magazine version) if anyone might want to try it.

My m1 CMP carbine will just fit under the wire on "pistols only range"
(Pretty sure anyway)
and she DOES want to know how it works with all the different mfr's parts in it.

BTW: For you .30 carbine brass hounds: I don't reload yet, so I'm not takin the empty brass home :)

Agreed. A little "crime scene cleanup", maybe a quick coat of paint, and assuming nothing mechanical was damaged (lights, target holder, etc), they're back in business.

That's just nuts! I did some searching and you guys are right. This is kind of common around the country. I feel bad for the person and yet I don't. There are cleaner ways to end it that don't leave a mess or endanger others.

There should be a closed off lane for those who rent. Line the walls in plastic sheets and install a drain in the middle. It's a sign if the renter only buys one bullet. ;-)

Just curious, have any of these suicide cases resulted in shooting others before killing themselves?

If I can kick the family out fast enough, I will try and make it out.

If I do end up making it,

I will be bringing my Sig P245 (.45 Auto) and a couple hundred rounds. I do not reload so those who do, you are welcome to my brass :-D

I would be interested in having my fiance try out a couple rounds through a Glock 19 if one will be there. I would buy a mag full from you. I would like her to shoot one before I look at buying her one.

Most of the XD hate is just razzing don't get all bent out of shape over it.

As far as who's ammo gets shot, it depends on the person that brought the gun, you should ask.

You should always ask to shoot someone else's gun, don't just grab.

.22's are always fun to shoot, bring it!

Also, please bring the XD so we can all see how much they suck monkey balls :D and I'll bring my M&P so you can drool over it. :p

We all meet in the class room before going to the range. Each person gets to shoot their own guns first. Then if you see something you'd like to try, ask to shoot it. Most will have ammo for their own gun,but it's nice to offer to use your ammo. Remember.......others will be asking to shoot yours and the same will apply at your lane.

Important to remember.......... The firearm doesn't leave the lane it's on. You must shoot it at the lane the firearm is on. NO moving the firearm from lane to lane.

just like going to the range with your buddies. some people will bring a few different shooters with them. There will be time to meet and greet/BS around a little in the class room area I would suppose. If there is a perticular model of gun you would like to try out ,You just ask if they dont mind if you check it out, or shoot it. Most People wont mind at all but still always ask.you would supply the ammo or perhaps offer to pay for ammo being used is the norm. nothing wrong with bringin a .22 there always fun to plink with.

(put it back into it's case and close the case, unloaded)

Which happens to be more work then just leaving it on the lane :)

I need to ask this, my wife might come with me but she says she doesn't want to be the only spouse there, this will be our first time coming to this type of an event, we do shoot together and she enjoys it very much, so will there be some wives or girl friends there or do I leave her home?

:gorgeous:

I will be bringing my spouse to this event. She is wanting to get a CPL and we're tying to figure out what gun to buy her (.380, 9mm, .40). I told her this would be a great event to attend because there maybe a couple of guns that we see that would work for her and that she may be able to shoot a round or two out of one of them before we look at puchasing a particular model.

Plus gives me an excuse to "blow of steam" :badass:

Guy's I'm going to try and make it but I won't be able to make the lunch part. Is that okay?

Got a P9 and PM9 Kahr, Sig 228 and (hopefully) a M&P 9 Compact if anyone is interested in trying one of these, let me know and I'll bring them along.

Might want to check out Dougs M&P trigger job.

Also, might like to try a Glock, M&P and Kahr in a .45 flavor.

Hope to see everyone there!

You may want to call them on this one.
Double Action DID let me shoot my steely 7.62 X25 there,
His reasoning and it;s true was that the round was too slow to cause any damage to their backstop.
But that's them...

Isn't 7.62x25 travelling faster then 9mm? If so why don't they let steel 9mm, .40 smith or .45 auto on the range? All a lot slower...

Hey Detroitbiker, good reminder, we all talked about this very thing at the fall shoot.

I don’t have “name tag labels” but I do have some big enough stick on labels that I will print the MGO Christmas logo on and bring a marker for people to put their name on.

If anybody wants one printed up, PM me, with what you want on it, i.e. screen name/first name or both and I will do that when I run them off.

The classroom can hold 20 people easy. The range is 8 lanes (one side), figure 2 people per lane that's another 16. The only MGO event we've ever had more than 30 people at was the annual meeting. And people will be coming and going, and many who said they would be there won't be there and vice versa, so we should be OK.

The event starts at 6:00 PM. There's no formal structure to it...basically Firing Line is letting us have half the range (8 lanes as far as I know) and the classroom. Meet, greet, eat, shoot, in no particular order.

Tallbear
12-23-2009, 09:46 PM
Everyone will meet in the classroom to go over some safety reminders and introduce themselves. Then it's off to the range with "sharing" of lanes and firearms as needed. Anyone coming in after we hit the range is welcome to come.

We usually stop shooting 15-30 minutes before closing to give us time to clean up after ourselves both on the range and the classroom area.

What happened to y'all when Mike "Tallbear" started squeezing off that Beowolf? That first range about emptied out into the other half when that "anti-tank" round went off.

Figured the shock wave did more damage than the round itself.

I got fortunate and so did the better half, we parked on lane 8 with our toys, and Mrs. Greggos shot a .32, a .22 and an M1 carbine (Underwood) and she like the M1 overall. She was thoroughly impressed when she found out how old that critter was (1944) and ended up being her favorite.
Great to meet Cobra and SEE T (?)wish we could have met more of youz but time was fleeting a bit.
I blew through more ammunition there on Saturday, than in the last 8 years.
You guys picking up my .30 carbine brass: I hope you were able to get most of it, seems I saw some of it getting swept up.
Maybe I will reload one day.
Too bad it's too dang far from Royal Oak, or I'd gladly patronize them.
Thank you one and all!

Not sure what lane i was at. I was on right side lanes. Heh I didn't know what you look like, doug didn't know what you look like and neither of us saw your name tag if you had one.

I left the PPSh out thinking that you would see it. Oh well.

Ahhh I was on the left and didnt venture to the right side. And I did forget the name tag. Oh well we'll catch up next time.

Thanks to everyone for making my wife's and my first MGO event great!
We were able to talk another couple (longtime friends who live in Canton) to come by and check it out. Believe it or not, they both had 9mm's they've owned for years and had never even shot until last night. In large part due to all the encouragement, I think they're hooked.......and spoke about getting their CPL's.

Thanks again,
Brian
(we brought the .40 Kel-Tec Sub2000, which a few folks seemed to enjoy ;^)

Thanks MGO/Joey for setting up the shoot. It was a lot of fun! That .50 Beowolf was a hoot and Doug's 44mag semi auto was a beast. I would have to lift some weights to shoot that on a regular basis. It made my 1911 feel like a polymer gun! I too, found my next gun at the shoot. That M&P9c was a sweet gun to shoot. Thanks again. :salute:

Great time indeed.
7.62 NATO thanks for sharing the lane.
Greggos thanks for the answer to the avatar trivia question.
Great to see those of you I have met before and great to meet more MGO people!
Good things happen if people will just show up, good boost for MGO spirit!

Ok, I am still in a learning curve on posting pictures, but I did get a few posted in the gallery, ended up in the miscellaneous.
Looks like that pile of guns might PGA’s?

I have a few more to post but I have to resize them first, some how the food table picture has one of the biggest file sizes, go figure, I will get to them later.

Just wanted to add my word of Thanks to Joey, and all the rest that were involved with putting the shoot together! Thanks MGO!!!

Also, it was nice to meet Ittayem66, Harleydude1911 and the rest of the guys with him. It was good to see Belair56 and Alton, and several other people that I've met over the past year or so.

Thanks to everyone that let my wife shoot their guns and for the help they gave her.

Joey, the chessecake exceeded all expectations!
