Good match, simple yet challenging stages which brought out some of the lesser practiced skill sets for the shooters to test themselves with. Lots of fun.

Heavily modified M1A. It is in the very first pic, and in a video as soon as Youtube finishes up. The owner is a Marine who lugs the 240 around....he likes big heavy guns. :)

I have some youtube videos of me and my buddy doing some of the stages. On stage one, I think I was one of the only guys to draw "engage all targets" and that with my underfolding non-optic ak47 of all things. Took about 6 minutes total and eventually ran out of pistol and 7.62x39 ammo.

Videos are finally up. Youtube is slow tonight. The quality will get better as they fully process, which usually takes another half hour or so. Anyway:

I would have preferred negative 4* and blowing snow, but today worked out okay I guess.

I have spent enough time in inclement weather to appreciate the good weather when we have it.

Good shooting. I shot like **** on stage 2. Two misses and some crappy hits.

But 20 target points on 3 and 4? Seriously?? :etoh:

3 was shot clean......

4 cost me a miss and 3 3 zone hits and 1 1 at the 25 yard. all under 13 seconds. 3 was clean in 12.3

I was trying all for head shots

Great match today, thanks to the guys who ran it. The little colored balls were a devious idea, really glad I didn't pull "all" on stage 1.

Why? It would just mean more trigger time. Is there something wrong w/ more trigger time?

I'll be at the January match.

It was a good time. Ned to work on my long range pistol a little. But I don't think I did that bad.

Not as bad as Steve made me look on stage 2. Thanks brother.

Fun fun, looking forward to January.

This looks like a ton of fun and a neat way to get some different practice in. Hopefully someday I'll have the skills and equipment to partake.

Is that a SCAR I see in one of the pics?

I have plenty of extra gear, and you'll never get started unless you just come give it a whirl one day. We have new shooters every match. Let me know what you need and I'll make sure you have everything to shoot.

man I think I shot less than 100 rifle rounds. Probably less than 50 rounds pistol.

Bring a couple hundred rounds of each and you'll have plenty.

That is a really reasonable round could. What time does the match usually end?

It varies from match to match, but they are typically pretty reasonable, esp with ammo prices where they are today. I usually bring a couple hundred of each and always come home with some. Usually you can get away with 100 rifle and about 50 pistol, but bring some extra just in case.

Depends on the day but usually between 2pm-4pm.

Keith:

Any chance of getting one of those set up for Elm Hall? It looks like a blast...

TheTrainingTeamCPL

A style of shoot likethis wouldn't be even close to as good in elm hall withou birms on the sides you can't do what you can do at centerline.

Plus without segrigated ranges you'd have to run everyone trough a stage then reset up a
stage after each one. It would be a pain in the a**.

Wow....That is mighty nice of you to offer.

Unfortunately, the list of items I need vastly outnumbers the items that I have. I own one pistol and thats about it at the moment. I just took a basic pistol class a couple weeks ago, and have fired maybe 250 rounds total. Had a great time, and now my wish list of training and equipment far exceeds my ability to pay for it all

Maybe I'll try to come out and observe the next match.

TFin04
12-15-2009, 09:20 PM
I have plenty to completely outfit another shooter, just pitch in for the cost of ammo. If you want to join, feel free. Or come watch to get a feel for things first, that is pretty common. I will say, the guys who come watch and didn't bring their gear to shoot regret it later on.

Either way, let me know if you plan to come out and we will get you a proper introduction.

MI-FreeShooter
12-15-2009, 10:02 PM
Is there a place for people who come to watch to shoot if they aren't in the comp??? Like if I came down to watch and brought my carbine and pistol could I shoot on a warm-up range or something instead of just watching all day???

TFin04
12-15-2009, 10:05 PM
Not really, we use all of the available bays throughout the day. There are trap and skeet games available at a different section of the range if you just want some trigger time on a gun.

If you're bringing all your gear, just come shoot! The scores don't mean a thing and everyone is extremely open to new shooters jumping in. That is the whole point, to get more people involved and to give them an outlet to practice with their firearms.

Load from your pockets and use your carry holster. No biggie. The gear doesn't make the shooter.

If you are a little new to combat style shooting, I suggest you start w/ the absolute minimum of gear until you figure out what will work for your situation. In addition, think about why you will be participating. What are you looking to get out of the experience? Gear should reflect that.

I ran my first couple matches w/ no carbine mag holders but pockets. Nobody gave me any grief, and it bought me time to figure out what would work for me.

Tell us what you currently have and expect to pick up before the match.

MI-FreeShooter

Ill prolly just buy a Belt rig, I won't like having the mags in my pockets while I move....

sign-in usually 9 to 9:30 am, match usually over by 2 to 3pm
