Ok, so I know the carbine I want (socom m1a or SCAR heavy if the dang thing ever comes out) the question I have is with optics. I want to go with a long range glass (nightforce, millet, etc) on top and if it is even possible a red dot (eotech, aimpoint). Has anyone ever seen someone mount secondary optics on the side rails? Call me crazy but, I'm guessing if you take the time to sight it in, you could mount a sight anywhere. The problems I forsee are mounting it somewhere that it is not designed to go and just getting in the way. I though about something similar to shoot through rings for the scope and just using irons which may be possible with the springfield. The SCAR's flip ups however are too high and I'm not intrested in mounting my scope a foot above the barrel! Thanks for the help guys!

People mount the Micro Aimpoints on another optic all the time. T1s, H1s, etc. Not a problem.

YHM (and possibly others) make some 45-degree mounts you can use to attach your secondary optics to your weapon.

Just rotate your rifle slightly and engage your short range targets and rotate it back to engage your longer range ones.

Here's the link (http://www.yhm.net/store/rails.html).
