Three good stages today.

Stage 1 required a high round count and a lot of unconventional shooting positions. Really tested the shooters to know their guns and equipment. Where does your gun hit at 100 yards from rollover prone?

Stage 2 Required a lot of movement, and a lot of pistol work.

Stage 3 was completely a mental stage working on situational awareness and memory.

Three EoTech's went down throughout the day. No big surprise there.

A little personal rant of my own.

I often get asked "nice pics, what camera took those?" when people see my pictures. It's as if the camera itself creates the settings, composes the shot, snaps the picture, then edits and uploads the image all by itself.

Sure, a camera will make a different in the quality of photo, but the majority of good photography begins with the human being standing behind the viewfinder. You can give a crappy camera to a good photographer and still get quality photos. The inverse of that is not always true.

My signature line can be applied across many different topics, but guns and photography fit it especially well.

Off my soapbox for now. :D

There's a picture, where you are drawing your pistol, what is the red along the slide of your gun? Did you color it? I'm guessing it's you because of the custom Raven. Also, how did the eotechs go down? If you know.

Dammit! I was all set to attend this, and even found someone to work for me. Unfortunately we are in the middle of searching for a house so that took precedence that day.

It looks like a hell of a lot of fun. I just got all the pieces I need for my rifle, although I'm still missing a nice pair of boots, and I don't think my rifle is zeroed that well (I was in a hurry the first time). Not to mention I am still an AR noob and the unconventional shooting positions will probably screw me up real good!!!

i thought stage three was pass fail. so why are there 3 different scores?

TFin04

Stage 3 was a 15 second par time. If you cleared it, you only got 15 seconds.

If you didn't clear it, you earn all the hostages in there, plus any target points (no hits on target, FTN, etc).

Basically, you and your gun suck. ;)

Couple of questions. Did you guys have to shoot over your heads while lying on your backs? What do you guys mean by holdover?

That's the point. We're all students.

And I learned A LOT from that stage 1. It was rough, I Shot 60 rounds of Rifle before I figured out I was holding the dot the wrong way. I had to finish off the majority of the stage with my pistol. Great workout for me though. I remember thinking to my self "damn this is embarrassing" while shooting the stage, but after I shamefully finished I though "wow I learned a lot there". I had the worst score on stage one probably, but I gained the most out of it i believe.

Thanks again to Tom and company for letting me use their gear so I can afford to shoot. Thanks also to the MD's and RO's for making this match happen.

holdover or optic over bore.

Your optic is 2-3 inches above the bore of your rifle. So at close distances when you shoot your point of impact is about that distance (2-3) inches below your dot or reticle.

So you have to "holdover" what your trying to hit by that same distance.

If you have a 50 yd zero and are shooting at 3 yds you are going to hit 2-3 inches lower than what your aiming at. So you aim 2-3 inches higher when at short distances.

make sense.

Right. That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure if you were talking about a physical position.

Thanks....I've heard that term before but didn't know what it meant.

So if you are zero'ed at 50yards and then shoot at 100yds, would that then be a "negative holdover" so to speak?

Should be about 1.3 inches high give or take

If I recall correctly 50 meter zero will put you, point of aim point of impact @ 50 meters, 1.3'' or so at 100 yds and back to point of aim point of impact at 200 meters.

please someone correct me if im wrong

Really nice work on the pictures.. Let me guess the setup: Apperture priority mode (around f 11.0) shutter speed around 1/60 s with fill in balanced flash burst. I coud be wrong, but the depth of field in the pictures is really deep.

Let me see if I was on target or off. Thanks for sharing.
