The annual Linden "Frozen Chosin" M1 match is 2/21/2010. The match program link is below...

http://www.lindensportsmenclub.com/CMP_Match_February_2010.doc

This match qualifies you to purchase M1 Garand or M1 Carbines from the CMP. Don't have an M1? They have some club rifles available for those wishing to participate, and this bunch generally goes out of its way to help newcomers to the Highpower sport.

Official results will show up eventually on the CMP COmpetition Tracker, but here's my report:

Great turnout for the annual Frozen Chosin at the Linden Sportsman's club in Linden, Michigan this past Sunday. I don't know the official number, but there were four relays of 20 shooters, so I figure about sixty. The match director said it was their biggest turnout ever.

I brought my son-in-law for his first ever match, and he fired 235-1X with his brandy-new AR-15 that we built a couple of weeks ago, after collecting parts for the better part of 2009. I couldn't be more proud of him. He probably could have done better with a better coach, but ya get what ya pay for! Regardless, I think he's hooked. I also think my daughter is smarter than I give her credit for. He's a good young man.

I managed to miss a bronze by one point by putting a nice group off center on the rapid prone. My slow prone was about as good as my 51 year-old eyes are capable of (94-2X), and my offhand was not good enough, but about normal for me (79). If I center up my rapid prone, it is one point short of silver, so I know I can get there. When I analyzed my targets away from the pressure of competition, I find that everything was a click right: Something I can work on!

BTW, nobody used any of the club rifles, so if that's what stopped anyone from participating, remember next time. They have a rifle clinc in April that also qualifies participants to purchase M1's from the CMP, so you have another chance.

I've been wanting to do this and simmilar shoots for the past few years but unfortunately CMP 9.5.2 disqualifies my AO carbine.

True, but I want proof of my bragging rights.

There are often club guns available, and this match was no exception. And no club guns were used so they were all available.

Participation in the event qualifies you to purchase a weapon from CMP that is within the rules. Regardless, you can normally fire what you brought (within reason) and still get to score your match just like if it were for award. My son-in-law fired the match with an AR-15, as did several others.

The idea behind the "as issued" rule is to level the playing field, essentially taking the rifle out of the equation and making it more a test of marksmanship, instead of a test of who has the best rifle.

Thanks to Garandpa I found this sight, seems like a good place to hang!

The Frozen Chosin Match at LSC has alway been well attended. First match of the year shooters wanting shake off cabin fevor, dust off their rifles and break some primers. This year was no exception. There were 56 shooters attending and they fired 74 matches. Four full relays, so much going on that I wasn't able to shoot, AGAIN!!! Everything in the way of CMP rifles were represented along with a few AR's. Everyone sure seemed to have a good time as they fired away, ate up 7 quarts of chilli and drake 5 pots of coffee.

AR's, M1'A, FAL's and yes mechredd even AO carbines are welcome. No CMP award pins would be available to shooters with these rifle but bragging right are there for the taking!!! Come join us, everyone is welcome!

For those interested here are the scores from the match.

a member of the Blue Water Sportsmans Association HiPo league has gotten his CMP certification for CMP registered Garand Matches...

we will be holding at least TWO Garand Matches this year at the BWSA and in speaking with the crew at Linden, we will probably hold at least 1 M-1 for Vets match this year as well...

watch here for more info...

ltdave,

When your events dates are secure and the match flyers are ready email them to me. I'll add them to my listing of events. No dought that I will be able to provide a few shooters from Linden for the matches too.
