I need to get some input.

I have a Contender, I have a few barrels with it. Sadly :x I've not shot the two I need help with. I have a 35 Remington and a 7mm TCU both in 14". The 7mm TCU has a scope mount, the 35 Remington (currently) is just stock iron sights.

Not shooting either and not really knowing the performance of the 7mm TCU, which would work for deer out to 150 yds and closer?

The 35 Remington is a good cartidge, but I'm not sure on it's distance and performance.

The 7mm TCU has the distance covered, but I'm wondering about it's performance.

Any opinions or links to information would be GREATLY appreciated.

Both are great cartridges for deer. the 35 has a lot less recoil.
now that is when they are shot from a rifle.

I would get both out and have some fun with them and see what they do from a short barrel.

Recoil isn't much of an issue with me... I can absorb it fairly well (read.. BIG guy). I am just more curious of performance at the edges of it's range for each cartridge.

Thanks!

I would say that each should reach out accuratly and with enough force out to the 150 - 200 yd range

ok first off get a real caliber i shoot the super 14 in 45/70! with the best load i have found for my 35 it is limited to 150yrs max if a clean hit is made with the 180 grain bonded spitzer at 150 depending on barrel length you are doing 1674 fps and 1121fpe! the recomeded fpe for whitetail at over 100yds is over 1200fpe to prouduce quick clean kill! now at 200yds my 350 grain load is putting out 1260fps and 1230 fpe but my 300 grain load is a real smoker at around 1400fps at 200yds and 1375fpe! i would go with the 35 remington if you cant get a 444 or 45/70 ! ok my 2 cents worth and practice at the actual hunting distances with the gun it aint all that easy to pull a 150 yd shot with a pistol!

Thanks Deputy...

I have a .45-70 in a Marlin Guide gun... WHOO HAAA that's a good enough boom for me, not wanting to throw that into my Contender! :cannon:

For practibility for this year, and PRACTICE... I probably ought to go with the 35 Remington (ammo readily available and cheaper than 7mmTCU).

I'll have to borrow a buddy's rifle for the shots I'm not confident on  . But I'll have my Ruger Blackhawk .44Mag (4 5/8" bbl) for the closer shots, the Contender for the further ones.

Thanks guys!
