I picked up this Enfield a few months ago and really don't know what I have. I know Enfields are pretty common and prices vary greatly. Heres what I know and what I have been told about it. All serial numbers match C16430. Neither the wood nor the bluing have ever been refinished. I was told this was a crate gun. Wood is in great shape, probably 90-95%. Bluing is about 92-94% as a rough estimate. Markings on bayonet say No. 4 MK II and under that it says N-87. Markings on wood show a painted S on the left side of the stock near the butt. There is a CEW stamped on the metal ring on the barrel end with what appears to be a small arrow above it. The stamped S appears on the gun on all the metal areas. Not sure about the rings for the sling but the sling appears to be an aftermarket sling. It was in an old soft gun case when I got it, nothing special. Had 40 rounds of ammo. with it, old Herters boxes. All .303.

Can anyone tell me what I have and what the value of it might be? Any history behind it? Thanks.

Looks like it's No4 MK2 enfield. It could be Mk1 or Mk1 converted to Mk2, but the brass butt plate and beech wood stock gives it away as Mk2 variant. Rear sight is also point towards Mk2.

The sling is US M1907 pattern type, thus not authentic nor correct.

Probably $300-$400 in value.

The stamped S on all the metal parts would indicate a Savage made enfield from the U.S., we made them on contract for the brits. There should be on the left side of the reciever the name of savage and maybe U.S. Property to be correct. Or, someone used alot of small parts from a savage gun to make up a rifle to pass off as a Savage to get abit more money as they are a little more desireable. If your reciever says Longbranch, then its Canadian made and a decent find, Longbranch used alot of Savage parts later in the war when the Savage contract ran out and that would be entirely correct. Nothing rare either way but those two are nice editions to any enfield collection. Yours has a walnut buttstock and beech forearm and handguard, one of them was replaced . Look carefully, you might find the serial # on the wood and that would tell you what the original stocks were, a clean looking gun, easily 250-300.

I am not into markings and stuff, i like milsurps, and have a few. I like shooters.

That is a pretty enfield.

I know you could sell it for $350 and it would sell in a hurry, and would likely be shortchanging yourself.

Is it import marked?

You dont see many modest price enfields that look that nice. I dont want to spend $500-600 on a shooter milsurp so my relative expertise is in teh value of low end stuff from like $100-$450.

I would not be surprised if you could get more than 400, that is a nice looker. Most enfields in the 300 range the wood is really tore up bad.

Dont use this as your price, but as your bottom price. The marking and serials i do not know the significance of, except on some mauser variants i am a bit of a mauser nerd.
