Will post pics tomorrow, I have a Marlin 12ga(?) barrel says "pat'd Nov. 6 1884. May 12 1896 & June 2 1896". Ser. is 13248 (or 3 not 8). Missing: trigger group rear stock, most of the function. I has the receiver, barrel, fore end, tube, tube spring, ejector extractor.

Is this worth fixing up? What's the model number? Is this a BP shot shell gun?

The parts I have look like they have potential... the cost/availability of parts I need are the real question.

Thanks.

If it's the style with the external hammer like the the Winchester model 97, I've had a couple, if I remember right the models were 19 and 29, mine were in nice condition and could hardly give them away, I think I sold mine for around $150.00 and it took a while, like I said they were in nice shape.

I believe the model # is on the top of the tang, where the buttstock mounts.
Those exposed hammer Marlins just never were popular.

It does look like a hammer gun now that you guys mention it. I only have about $5 invested into it so far, if can get it up and running for $100 or so That would be good. There is no model number on the tang, but I looked up on model 19 on Numrich.com looks like the $100 wont cover the parts needed if it is a model 19. They also list variants of the model 19.

I'm not looking to get rich in rebuilding this gun, just think it would be nice to bring it back to life. Might be a fun gun for the range.

Is that what was plugging the main line? If nothing else it will give you experience at refinishing and make a good wallhanger if not functional.

That is rough, but on the other hand if you wanted experience in refurbishing a firearm this would be a good specimen, you don't have a lot invested and if you plan on doing all the work yourself and can pick up parts at a reasonable price go for it, at worst, make or rework a stock, refinish the wood and re-blue, then make it a wall hanger as 7.62 Nato has suggested.

It would make a great paperweight as is. I can imagine finding all the parts to restore- except that one rare one that hasn't been available since the 1950s!
Your best ROI would probably be to part it out. But then I've done projects that made even less economic sense. :-|
