I am limited to spending around $100 for a spotting scope. I have already heard "you get what you pay for", or, "that one is junk", "you can't get anything good for less than $200", etc., so please none of that.

Knowing the above and not seeing a lot of reviews from shooters, I'd like to get some opinions from those who have owned or used some of the lower end priced scopes from Barska, Tasco, Yukon, Alpen, Simmons, & Bushnell, and give me the good points and bad points if you would.

I'll be using it at the range for a .22lr, and an AR, maybe to 200 yds max. I already have a nice tripod so if the scope comes with a cheap tripod or none at all, it doesn't matter.

Thanks.

For your use, cheap will prolly get you by.

Don't waste your money on anything with more than 36x.....for it is about useless as far as I am concerned.

I'm in that area, maybe up to a 45x. What I've read is that after that there is more difficulty in obtaining a clear view especially in the lower end scopes and like you said, it's a waste of money. Being in Florida with all the humidity I do need to get one that is nitrogen purged and fogproof.

I have been looking in to a reasonably priced spotting scope myself and after reading several forums Konus seems to have the best reputation for lower priced scopes.

There are a few options in the $2-250 range at OpticsPlanet.net (http://www.opticsplanet.net/konus-spotting-scopes.html), unfortunately they arenīt within your prescribed price range.

I bought a Tasco for right around $100 last fall to use for highpower and I'm very happy with it so far. It's a 20 - 60X and I can see my .223 hits on a 100 yard target and read mirage at 600. For the price it's a pretty good scope, and comes with a nice case and a small tripod. The only thing I don't like about it is the mount, which is not a sadle type, but it got a 45 degree eyepiece and is clear and easy to focus or zoom.

I've shot six matches with it and dozens of practices, including 600 yard work.

I purchased this and do not regret it one bit. http://cgi.ebay.com/KONUS-KONUSPOT-80-SPOTTING-SCOPE-20-60X80-7120-NEW-/360259561283?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e124a743

Buy once, cry once. It is leaps and bounds better than any other scope that I have handled even relatively in the same price range.
