The current Model 60's are in flavor .357 magnum. You have one of the older .38 special models. The CTG on the barrel, does that follow .38 or .38 special? Sounds like you might have a nice old Smith & Wesson. CTG stands for cartridge, as far as I know. Don't give it away if that's what you're wondering. I have no idea if the DAO and the bobbed hammer are factory but I doubt it. Call S&W's customer service and tell them what you have. They'll give you the information you seek.

The chambering is stamped on the barrel and should read, ".38 S&W Special CTG". CTG is an abbreviation for cartridge.

Swing the cylinder open and you'll see the full model number stamped on the frame. It may read something like "MOD 60-1". The number after the dash is an engineering change level and helps date and identify it. The serial number (taken off the butt) will help too.

On the barrel it stamped 38 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG. Other side of the barrel it just reads SMITH & WESSON . I will have to get ahold of them to see exactly what I have. Thanks John. When you swing the cylinder out it reads MOD 60-3

I have a 60-15. It looks like this one. It is a 3" with adj. rear sight. The S&W model 60 was the first stainless revolver if I'm not mistaken.

This ones sights are non adjustable. The rear sight is machined into the gun and front blade is also machined.

The 60-3 was introduced in 1988 and the 3" barrel was discontinued in 1992, should yours should fall somewhere between.

The "-3" engineering change involved switching from a fitted front sideplate screw to a screw with a spring loaded plunger tip. The front screw holds the yoke in place and the change was made to reduced skilled labor costs by eliminating the fitting operation. The yoke is also different to accommodate the new screw. I suspect the hammer was bobbed after it left the factory.

$350ish???
