Whats the first rule of handling firearms..? Treat every weapon as if it is loaded... Thank God nobody was hurt in this incident.

As many safeties on a 1911 plus your finger..I just can't see this correctly.
Hate to see how this person handles a G-Lock loaded...

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but practicing with ammo should be done at the range?? Not per-say in your basement of you home..

Well i guess this was one way to kill a gun,and two Have a homer Simpson moment...

A guy brought in a double barrel shotgun with a dent in one of the barrels. I asked him what happened and he told me he thought his handgun was unloaded when he aimed it at his shotgun and pulled the trigger.

I aked him how far the shot was. Then told him nice shot...you now have a heavy single shot shotgun!

Stupid people will forever be stupid people.

There's no reason to have live ammo in your weapon while performing exercises that require no shooting.

If he would have been using an XD and a Serpa this would have never of happened.

+1 agreed, but there is not foolproof system for dummies....Oh, i meant gun safety..

how so? He most likely had a grip on the 1911, and the thumb safety off, and he pulled the trigger.

Unless you mean that the XD wouldn't have even fired with a proper grip, thumb safety off (if it is a model with a thumb safety), and trigger pulled.

Maybe this was another joke about XDs... If so, I fail to see how its funny. Sure, the first time someone jokes about them.... the second time..... possibly the third.... but when everyone on a forum has to bring up the topic of XDs every other post?

I dont think he was making a joke, a Sepra holster,(?not sure what it has to do with?) and a XD will not fire unless you have a firm grip on the back strap safety...No the XD model's do not have a Thumb safety like the 1911's.. Hs2000 offerd it..Again any hand gun shouldnt be patice with at home...IMO...

hmm sorry I probably jumped on that one a bit soon. I just get tired of the constant xd bashing. I don't like them much myself but, yah know, after awhile it gets old.

I'm fairly sure there is a model of XD with a thumb safety though.

And yes, true, follow gun safely rules and this wouldn't have happened.

An XD and a Serpa, Steve's combination from hell lol

Doesnt matter what kinda gun if it was in a Serpa, cause he never would have gotten it out of the holster :)

Nothing wrong with "dry" drawing at home...but with a loaded 1911?!? The Ruger did not deserve this fate. Bullet would've been better served through his TV or something with no value to us. RIP Ruger...

P.S. Is anyone else disappointed there is no picture of the 1911? I know it has nothing to do with the situation but hey, I always like to see a 1911.

I think "Someone was practicing drawing, disengaging the safety, and pulling the trigger at home" is more like it.

Hahahaha, he was practicing his draw with a loaded gun... forgive me for pointing out the obvious, I'm just trying to get a good firm grasp on the level of stupidity that it took to achieve the senseless destruction of a perfectly fine gun.... Clearly since this happened in his home he had no intention of firing the gun though his finger obviously had to be on the trigger for this to happen, and since the gun was on the floor when it was shot my guess is he had his finger touching the trigger before he even pointed it at what ever point in space he was planing to aim at that in its self is a bad idea even if the gun isn't loaded, if you do it in practicing your likely to do the same thing in a situation where prematurely firing your gun could do more damage than hurting your pride and putting a hole in your floor. Its too bad he didn't shoot him self in the foot. :hide:

My thoughts exactly. Your finger shouldn't be in the trigger guard unless you are actively firing.

I don't practice drawing with ammo in the chamber, but at the same time, I've never had a ND while drawing at the range, and I don't know anyone else who has either. Obeying the 4 rules should simply prevent it. This guy is lucky he didn't blow a hole through his leg the long way.

I just don't get why he would even put this video online if it WAS indeed him. Maybe he just saw that bullet and couldn't help but share it with the people.... IDK, but I definitely wouldn't have uploaded this video on youtube if it were me.
