CAUTION: graphic images of trauma.

Best Not to Use A .50 Caliber Round As A Hammer

In fact, this is a good example of why we do not use any loaded cartridge as a hammer, tap or other implement of impact.

Dang....

Several years ago, a young man I knew was tapping a 3.5" 12 gauge turkey load on his desk while listening to music.

It discharged.

He suffered no injury but, the ceiling had a hole in it.

Rumor has it that his mom set a land speed record getting downstairs to his bedroom.

That was a learning experience without the trauma that soldier suffered.

Wow, as a MG instructor I've seen a few of Marines do that. I've use the bullet as a pry tool before but never a hammer. Wow, Glad it never happened in one of my classes or to anyone I've known. That just sucks. ...Someone give him a hand, he's having a bad day.

You're kidding right?
...he would have had to climb down off his track/hummer. ;p

Still not as bad as the jackass crimping det cord with his teeth.

Tight quarters probably. The round just happened to fit.

Just because something fits somewhere doesn't mean it should be used there. I use this rule in many aspects of life and it has served me well. ;-D

It just amazes me what people do. Anyone with the minimal of gun training should know not to try something like this. As was already said, you can't fix stupid.

I doubt it. There is no bringing back that hand to be functional. waaayyy too much nerve damage (whatever nerves and tissues are even left to mend)

I'm calling Photoshop on this one.

Look at the size of his fingers compared to his arm. That hand does NOT go with that arm. Sorry.

As an RN who spent a few days in ER I can say without a doubt the anatomy of that hand is absolutely correct. Explosions mangle body parts beyond recognition. Take a look at rotten.com if you don't think that's real.

+1 The anatomy (IMHO) of the hand is perfectly correct - the finger looks too long because it has been blown apart, and each joint has separated, tearing the skin, and causing it to stretch. The reason the arm is whiter is because they (the doctors/medics) have already begun to clean it with water and saline - an arm can be scrubbed clean, but obviously with a wound like that, it will continue to bleed, contrasting the colors markedly.

Wow! I hope that isn't the date hand?!?!?!
When I was in Middle School we had a kid that blew his left nipple off when he was using a vice and hammer to get the powder out of a .22 casing. I still remember him showing us in the gym locker room. His first name was Chris, can't remember his last name right now. Maybe he had a kid and he joined the millitary?
