My friends father brought over his first shotgun to put it in my wife's garage sale, and I was wondering what it might be worth? It is a 16ga 2 3/4 single shot Savage 220L-E. It appears to be in very good condition. We're guessing he probably received it around 1970, but I have no other idea on it's age (whether he got it new or used). Any ideas?

I would start at $100.00, depends on condition

Thanks Redbeard. He had a price tag of $55 OBO on it, and I thought that was a bit low. It was manufactured in Westfeild Mass., so that makes it a later model from what I found. I found this ( http://www.gunsamerica.com/984372558/Guns/Shotguns/Savage-Shotguns/Savage_220_16ga.htm ) for $195 but I don't know why they are asking so much? Also, I really don't know how to rate collectible guns, and this one has a medium size chip out of the forestock, but I would think that is a lot better than parts (butt plate) being missing, and all of the metal looks good and well taken care of? Anyone else have any ideas?

In my opinion,$50 is about right for a single shot, especially a 16 ga as the ammo is harder to find and pricey. I would be very surprised if anyone paid $100 for it.

The one of gunsamerica is overpriced for a gun is only 80% condition and missing a butt plate.....that one is actually worth the $55 that your frined's father is asking for his.

If a 220 is in excellent condition and has not been altered in any way, you should get between 100 and 125 for it.

At a garage sale, he may not get that much.
