Hello everyone ,
Purchasing a Glock 23 tomorrow in 40 S&W. I previously rented a G23 a few days ago at Brown Bear sporting goods on 21 and Gratiot and I absolutely love it. Never owned a handgun before, but everything about this gun appealed to me. Nice trigger pull, not a hefty amount of recoil, compact, and the 13+1 is not bad either!

If anyone has any tips/reccomendations/accessories that would be useful for target shooting and or concealed carry it would be greatly appreciated. Have a good day Gentleman!

Well first off welcome to the site. As far as recommendations for accessories, i'd recommend a quality holster and most definitely a good stiff gun belt. Those two things will make carrying much, much easier. You should (IMO) look into getting night sights if it's not already equipped. And of course , lots of magazines, ammo, training, and practice. Congrats on the Glock, it's a fine weapon.

A Glock 23 has been my main carry for about 5 years now. Great choice. For concealed carry, the best advice I can give you is buy a quality gun belt and holster. Don't scrimp on either of those items. You'll carrry more comfortably and conceal better, depending on your choices.

I love my 23. As far as holsters, I use a Comp-Tac M-Tac IWB and I have a G&G belt slide and Glock sport/combat for OWB concealed. Usually a pancake with a thumb break for OC.

For accessories: I would get some night sights and extra mags if you don't have them already. Look in to a Lone Wolf conversion barrel and some 9mm mags (from the G17 or 19) and you can switch to 9mm to save on ammo for range time. Other than that, it's a Glock, what more could you need

Or get the G23 and a 9mm conversion barrel from Lone Wolf (http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=983&CAT=241) and have both! (And you can order it black as well, if you don't like the goofy logo on the barrel hood).

I have a 23, first gun since about 5 months ago.

I like it, and it goes "BANG" every time I pull the trigger, I am however looking for a smaller backup gun as its a bit much for me to carry during July/August.

My 23 sites also seem to be perfectly aligned.

here is Dabears quintessential glock upgrade list
start with a glock gen 3 or RTF2 or if you prefer a gen 4

Lone wolf barrel w/o porting
extended slide release
extended magazine release
3.5 pound trigger connector and spring
night sights( I prefer xs24/7 big dot for fast acquisition)
Crimson trace backstrap
+2 floor plates(pearce) if you have a sub compact
lighter firing pin spring

raven holster

your glock will be perfect :)

Congrats on the G23. Also 1 of my favorite handguns.

I recommend getting a set Talon Grips, dramatically helps at the range once the hands start getting sweaty. I prefer it over the rubber grips or an inner tube.

I have a Glock 23, and I also have the Wolf conversion barrel 40SW-9mm.. I've done 2 IDPA matches plus my IDPA certification with the G23 using the 9mm barrel.. In total I have 1200 rds of 9mm down the wolf barrel and around 1000 of 40 SW down the Glock barrel without any single failure.. And by the way, I use the Korean G19 generic magazines when I shoot 9mm.. Just fine..

NB: I use the wolf 9mm barrel in G23 for gaming purposes only.. NOT "I repeat" NOT for carry.

Why not? Sounds like it's reliable.

Then I must have been lucky 3 times in a row. I've got a LW G17 barrel, 40-9 G35 barrel, and a 40-9 G27 barrel.

All three dropped in, fit well, shoot well, and run just fine.
