How badly were they damaged?
Getting a lawyer is about the only option. The problem is more widespread in Wayne County than elsewhere but I would be willing to bet most police departments in this state have done something similar at one time or another. Which is why putting a statute in place would actually help people in my opinion.
Something like this?
