I just tried this method after wasting an hour trying different methods. It worked very well. I did change one thing though. I was in my garage so I drilled a hole though the bottom of the 30-06 casing I then slipped a screw from the inside of the casing to the outside and scewed it into my cleaning rod. It worked great. Thanks everyone for your input.

Resurrecting an old thread, but I wanted to add to this because this post and Roundballer's advice helping me out.

I too got a cheap brush stuck in my barrel (when I went to remove it, the crimped piece with the thread pulled out of the brush part). Again, compressed air didn't work because there was no seal, and I couldn't get a coat hangar down through the bristles to catch the bottom and pull it up. I also didn't have access to spent shells.

Instead, I used a piece of Copper coil (3/8", 5ft section) from the hardware store, straightened it, and fed it down the barrel. I had to push the brush all the way to the bottom against the breach plug, but working it back and forth allowed the coil to collapse the brushes and push down around the brush. From there, it was simple to lift out the brush! I wanted to say thanks, and post some pictures which may help out someone else who has access to a hardware store but not a range. imgur.com/a/MA8e28K (Also, new here so hopefully posing that link isn't against any rules...)

And thank you philbo_baggins and all the others that have posted or emailed to expression their appreciation. It seems that this a very common occurrence with little available advice on the subject.
